French collective RUBA KPØ follow their last EP on Sonar Kollektiv with this fresh five track offering on hot new label RKRS Recordings, which comes direct from the Riviera.
Now based between Oslo and Nice, this collective of musicians and DJs make music without limits. Laurent Garnier and Sasha were big fans of their last outing and this new EP marks something of a rebirth. After three years focusing on developing their radio show, working on their live act and exploring new ways of making music, they now really stretch their musical legs from jazz to bass to happy house to French cold wave.
This EP evokes an imagined historical meeting between ancestral Africa and the Scandinavian Vikings, and kicks off with 'Arengue' whose afro roots collide with a rock n roll guitar under the persistent uplift of a disco cowbell. It's an explosive club groove with plenty of character. The excellent 'Pentagonal' is "an alien sex story" which takes the form of a wonky slow motion techno workout, with broad, sweeping pads and an otherworldly feel. The brilliantly upbeat house of 'Janky Chord' is this collective's “view of the space conquest if it was lead by women" and is a deeper, more pensive groove filled with grace and suavity. Keeping up the invention levels, ’Sisters' is a tribute to the smoky 50s and 60s jazz clubs that shuffles on pared back but rubbery drums and rich warm bass. Finally, 'Unconditionally' is a classical love story with a twist and plenty of bass making for a cavernous groove run through with carefully designed and subtle cosmic synths.
These are five fantastically different and evocative tracks packed with compelling detail and rich in sound design.

A warm welcome to the Hungarian producer talent SNYL on our imprint with his debut release "Sci-Fied". After releases on labels such as SINCOPAT, ICONYC, Perspectives Digital or Beat Boutique were happy to have two smashing Original tracks rolling down on our floor. Title track "Sci-Fied" comes along with a lot of energy and keeps the dark mood all over the full distance with a spacy vocoder highlight. "In My Head" with the beautiful vocals of Canadian artist Jessica Zese is the second track, having a mystic atmosphere and keeps the focus on a fabolous bassline. Returning to their JEAHMON! home, both Marc DePulse and Rafael Cerato teamed up for a remix and put their Capulet-fingers on "In My Head" with the typical handscript.

MIMS is hyped to premiere an epic new remix of Fred Everything's sought after house hit "Here (Now)" by the king of space disco himself, Prins Thomas.

A 10-minute space disco journey as only Prins Thomas can deliver, his "Diskomiks" incorporates elements from both the original 2003 version and Fred's 2020 update.

Back in 2003, nearly 20 years ago now, Fred Everything released 2 albums  on Ralph Lawson’s 20:20 Vision, alongside a heap of singles and remixes. In between those albums, he released a single called 'Over You'. Unexpectedly, the b-side, "Here (Now)" turned into a bit of a hit!  

One fan was Ian Pooley, who always told Fred it was the his best track ever. And as recent as 2019, Ian picked it for a feature in Telekom Electronic Beats about his top 5 B-Side tracks, overnight boosting the Discogs price for the original EP to 100 EU.

Fred felt inspired to dig out the song from his archives. Finding all the original stems he couldn't resist putting a new spin on the song himself. But he wasn't done there and could see it being a good opportunity for reinterpretation. 

Fred tells us, "when I dug out this project, I instantly thought of Prins Thomas as I’m a big fan of his and could hear his cosmic touch on this. It helped that I was working with him on another alias project for his label at the same time. He felt bad that the remix was 10 mins long but I embraced that. It’s a rarity these days for music to really take its time to live and breath. Extremely pleased with the result!"

Digital is out later this week  but you can order the vinyl from a number of stores now.

These are strange times. Everything is different. One thing we know, for sure, is that Jane Weaver continues to metamorphise...

New album ‘Flock’ is the record that Jane always wanted to make, the most genuine version of Jane Weaver, complete with unpretentious Day-Glo pop sensibilities, wit, kindness, humour, glamour...

It features an untested new fusion of seemingly unrelated compounds fused into an eco-friendly hum; pop music for post-new-normal times. Created from elements that should never date,its pop music reinvented.

Still prevalent are the cosmic sounds but ‘Flock’ is a natural rebellion to the recent releases which sees her decidedly move away from conceptual roots in favour of writing pop music.

Produced on a complicated diet of bygone Lebanese torch songs, 1980's Russian Aerobics records and Australian Punk.

The musician’s exposure to an abundance of lost records served as a reminder that you still feel like an outsider in this world and that by overcoming fears you can achieve artistic freedom.

It’s a consciously positive vision for negative times, as is the title track, a brooding andethereal song that stop/starts, like a cool jazz breakdown playing at the end of the world café. It underlines the discordant pop vibe that permeates ‘Flock’ and concludes on ‘Solarised’, a super-catchy, totally infectious apocalypse, a radio-friendly groove for last dance lovers clinging together in an effort to save themselves before the end of the night.
