In spring 2023 I made a second trip to Precious Hall in Sapporo to play again with the wonderful Occa at his Archiv party. This time we took things deeper, darker, more disturbed... at one point we were playing in almost total darkness, completely absorbed in the mesmerising, truly immersive sound system.
Essentially this serves as the second part of the mix I did there in 2022, and hopefully marks a succession of annual visits to this beautiful looking and unique-sounding venue.

DJ Masda is a seasoned selector renowned for his deep excursions in house and techno. Born and raised at the foot of Mount Fuji, his path has taken him out from the shadow of the sacred mountain, through Osaka, and placed him firmly in the nerve centre of European techno, Berlin. He made his first steps in the 90s, spinning expertly chosen vinyls and developing a keen ear for subtler details that quickly got him noticed. In the decades since, he’s been busy building a body of work that includes playing at some of the world’s most revered venues and running his very own label and club series Cabaret with So Inagawa. Under their imprint,  he’s primarily focused on giving a platform to friends, those with whom he shares a personal connection and whose music brings something fresh and fun to the label; this fraternity of musical souls are hard at work to bring the very best of the Cabaret sound to market. Here, Masda’s own signature mix is made manifest for Bassiani Podcast 199: a patiently crafted three-hour dive into eerie electro, bouncy house, even a peppering of Italo nostalgia, recorded live at Horoom’s season close last July. A perfect end to summer and a perfect start to a new year, an act that’ll be hard to follow.

@eli-verveine is a musical chameleon who can do it all from banging peak time sets to pensive warm-ups via weird and wonderful hour hours sessions. She has proven that over the years in many of the scene's most cultured clubs whether playing solo, B2B as Among Trees with Andrey Pushkarev or live with Gwenan as Gin & Tonic. On top of all this, she has a well-formed discography that delves further into her versatile sounds.

This week's mix reflects her musical malleability as she draws on plenty of diverse tempos and textures to craft a lively trip. There are moments of blissful deepness next to more nuanced rhythms, futuristic bass explorations and cosmic electro sojourns that keep things moving at pace, but always with great control and expert selections.

Mix number 14 in our series, and the first live recording from Bonanza 2025 from none other than Ivan Smagghe. 

Recorded on the Sunday night of the festival, Ivan ushered the terrace through the penultimate set, handing over to Unai Trotti just before the light began to creep in over the river for the final sunrise of Bonanza. This is Ivan in deep, trippy and bewitching mode, just how we like it. 

In his own words, “I am always unsure recordings translate what happens in the moment, but people like them”. Hopefully some of the electricity from what was an incredibly special experience at the time trickles though your speakers at home xx

Madloch's 3rd Avenue proudly presents Impulse Control, the label debut from Sri Lankan producer Maithree. After first appearing on our Future Avenue Spring Sampler 2025, followed by a full EP on Future Avenue and a recent feature on Balkan Connection, Maithree now steps onto 3rd Avenue with a deep and melodic original that shows his evolving sound and refined production approach.

The release is completed by three fresh reworks from Shamika, Paul Boychev, and Vote for Pedro, each offering a distinctive perspective, from hypnotic and atmospheric to more driving and groove-focused.

London had a lot to do with Hector Morillo’s break in music. After moving from Mexico to the capital he landed a job at Phonica Records, where getting to know Loco Dice and Anja Schneider helped him land releases on mobilee and Desolat. He was also a part of the famous T-Bar venue during Shoreditch’s early-2000s heyday, frequently playing alongside guys like Jamie Jones before they’d broken through. 

T-Bar has long since vanished from East London’s party circuit, and Hector’s profile now extends far beyond the capital too. A big part of this success has been Vatos Locos, the party and record label he runs from his Berlin home base. 

This summer he brought the party across Europe, including a residency at one of Ibiza’s most revered small venues, Underground. Hector also lands in Farringdon alongside key crew members Chad Andrew, David Gtronic and Randall M on 13th October, so we asked Hector for a mix and interview ahead of their appearance.

Born in the UK and now settled in South America, James Monro's immersion within the music industry goes back some 30 years. Having been classically trained at school, James' musical influences diverged into a long and keen love affair with all things electronic. From his initiation into the otherworldly sounds of Yello, Jean Michelle Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Visage, Human League, Brian Eno, Georgio Moroder and the more left field electronic experimental bands of the early 80's, and combined with a deep love of the psychedelic bands of the 70's, disco and early hip hop, it was inevitable that he fall into a passionate relationship with electronic dance music. He entered into club land, journeyed through the early daze of Acid House, the uk's "summers of love" in '88 and '89 , onto the beaches of Goa in the early '90's and out into the global circuit of parties and festivals that have since become his playground. All the while collecting the music as he went, finding and forging his own sound, and starting up the now legendary Flying Rhino Records with 2 friends in 1995.

With his countless influences, musical prowess and production skills, as a DJ, James weaves a heady journey through all styles of dance music. So much so that it's impossible to truly define his sound. Suffice to say it's deep, its hypnotic, it's emotional and above all fat and funky. James is always pushing the boundaries of what constitutes house or techno, and his passion for his craft has never faltered - his global schedule is testament to that. He's been touring the globe for over 20 years, and still can't get enough. He has played along side many of the leading lights of dance music - Carl Cox, Nick Warren, Sasha, Hernan Cataneo, Sven Vath, John Digweed and Dave Seaman, to name just a few. He has also played in some of the most famous clubs in the world, including Amnesia in Ibiza, Heaven in London, Womb in Tokyo, The Edge in Sao Paulo plus many of the best festivals and open-air parties on the planet - all the while garnering ideas and inspiration that have made him both a finely tuned producer and phenomenally passionate DJ who has cemented his name as a popular and seasoned favourite within the underground music scene…..

We’re excited to welcome a bartender from Beirut, Lebanon, to the Schirmchendrink family: LØC, standing for “Line or Circle”, created a fantastic “Resolution” cocktail containing lots of Gin,  his favorite spirit! We’re following the path of this promising talent for a while now and kick start this weekend with his brand-new journey, exclusively on Schirmchendrink.

LØC’s musical genre reflects his eclectic influence: from high-modernist integral serialism to jazz-funk fusion to Armenian poetry to oriental – all distilled down to pure, crystalline minimal techno. As well as Disco, Slow House, Ketapop , Deep House… you name it! LØC is a sonic storyteller that catches you from the beginning!

When it comes to groovy dream house, the last years have seen many new talents. LØC belongs to this generation of new producers that rose up from the underground and enjoy the support of todays who is who across global DJ booths. 

His’s first releases have been brought to us by Nie Wieder Schlafen and Sag & Tre, both newly established but already key players in this popular niche of electronic music. 

Most recently LØC created “Living Room Sessions”, a concept to get intimate with producers during their live performances. LØC is a sound explorer, a frequency designer and noise maker. 

Now and then he also honors dance floors outside of Beirut with his music. And there is a rumor that LØC is playing in the City of Lights  - dans la “Ville Lumière” – this Saturday!
