In this one I tried structuring my enabling/disabling of layers a bit better, so that for the most part my hands wouldn't have to move all over my rack to operate things: I automated the enable/disable of the chord pad, and configured mute groups on Metron for various permutations of the other tracks. Transitions were still performed mainly on F8R, with a white noise -> filter -> reverb wash on one fader, Desmodus Versio blend on another, and Oxi Meta in delay mode on a third transition fader.

Other patch notes:
- Bass voice: Schlappi Three Body hard-syncing Virt Iter Legio, with a sub-sine from Three-Body mixed in, through Éon Procyon.
- Chord pads: Knobula Monumatic, as is
- Arpy Chords: Serge Medusa through Make Noise QPAS
- Lead: Incus Iteritas Alia through Befaco Pony VCF
- Kick: Ohmforce Bohm
- Other Drums: WMD Clutch, Crucible, Kraken
- Send FX: Strymon Starlab reverb, Qu-Bit Nautilus delay
- Mixed with the WMD Performance Mixer MK II, and recorded as a single stereo output direct from the modular.
- Some compression applied in post

You Heard I Like To Party

tldr: sampling jwh's week 1 and week 2 submissions to create this track.

Storytime kids, sit around and listen somewhat carefully.
It was a long time ago, 2026, Weekly Beats Week 1 just ended, and I was listening to jwh's week 1 submission.
A thought popped into my mind: "Turn this into some minimal techno, Yoeri, do it, do it".
And as the big Mufusual in the sky faded, I thought, why not?

I asked jwh for permission, and he was so kind to send me the stems.
I took all kinds of little bleeps and bloops, mangled pieces, and mainly used Waves's "Ovox" synth to create new sounds from his stems.
The track was progressing somewhat nicely; it wasn't great, but good enough.
then, Ovox started acting out, it kept resetting itself and nothing sounded the same, and since I already experienced Ovox doing this a few years prior, I gave up trying to get it fixed.
By then, Week 2 was over, and jhw posted an alternative version of his week one submission, and I really loved the vocals.
Again, asking jwh for permission to use these on top of the samples I had from his week 1 submission.

For almost 12-or-so hours (over a couple of days), these vocals would repeat over and over again, putting me in some trancelike state while I was figuring out how to use the few surviving samples from my previous attempt.
Believe me, I kept hearing these vocals even in my sleep, hehe.
Eventually, I dropped the hard limit on only using samples collected by cutting up/wrangling/distorting the stems and just went with the flow.

By the time I was halfway through the track, I sadly needed to pick up the pace, as my current client suddenly set a tight deadline, and a new client with a tight deadline was added to my agenda. Ahh, life, always getting in the way of the plans we make.
So In two additional few hour sesions I winged it, went with the flow, and this is the result.
There's def some stuff I'd redo, tweak, and edit, but the most important thing is that I had a fun time creating it.
Something, something, trying to create shorter tracks, something, something, always next time.

Live at Ziggy's: Gear Lords 43 2026-02-04

A chill one for you this week. Set up a bunch of rhythmic sequences and static pitch chords/sequences, and then improvised the harmonies on the Oxi One Mk2's Performance view by offsetting them in-scale.

"Peripatetic" because the melodies and harmonies restlessly wander throughout.

I tried a slightly different recording process this time around: instead of using the main mix directly from the modular and recording stems just on the side, this time I used the audio from the multitrack recording directly. That way I was able to get better gain staging on the stems (and consequently less noise), and it just generally simplified the process a lot. It's less modular purist though, and I don't know yet how I feel about that... We'll continue to experiment next week!

- Serge NTO through Serge VFCS, with occasional spikes from the Medusa through the Serge Wave Multipliers' rectifier circuit mixed in.

- WMD Kraken and Fracture as The Clap

Rhythmic patterns for the voices came from the 1U Steppy this time. Drums sequenced from WMD Metron as usual.
FX added in DAW, a touch of Valhalla Supermassive and Ableton's standard delay.

Peripatetic

Got started late this week and ended up with some ambientish jank. Didn't like my initial take at first, then I streamed the patch for half an hour to get more in the groove (find the stream on the Earth Modular Society YouTube channel if you're interested), and then recorded a second take, this time with drums.
But in the cold light of the next day's relistening, I realized that I preferred my original take, so here you go!

I did multitrack this, but the raw mix came out fine, so I decided not to bother reconstructing my mix in the DAW.

Seek the Thrill

I've got some dance trash for you this week!

This one's origin story is a story of just leaning in to what works. I set up a patch and programmed a few remote control presets on the Drop, then I figured I should just stream it for a bit. (I live stream modular sets on Earth Modular Society sometimes, it's an awesome community you should join if you're at all into modular!) Ended up noodling around for 48 minutes total, and felt that I got some good ideas out of it. So after a little break I sat down and recorded a little 5 minute session, moving through the presets I had created in my earlier stream, and... it just sounded awful, with messed up structure and none of the groove the stream ended up on.

Thankfully, I had recorded the whole stream as a multitrack session in Ableton - so I just picked out my favorite section (around 40 minutes in), and added a club-compatible intro and outro.
And then I decided to experiment with some vocal samples from Output Arcade, and man... this feels like a cheat code. Had a bit of fun with that, added some heavy FX, and out the door with the dance trash!

- Oh yeah, the Neuzeit Drop. Starting to get to grips with it I think. Still need more practice and workflow refinements.
- Vocal samples from Output Arcade added in Ableton.
