From experimental electronics and dark ambient to psychedelic pop and blissed-out indie, the direction of each mix is completely of the artist's choosing. 
In keeping with the series' broad remit, featured selectors will include label owners, journalists, promoters and collectors as well as DJs and producers.

Mix Twelve is from producer, DJ and Circus Company cohort, Dave Aju.

San Francisco Bay Area native Marc Barrite’s alias Dave Aju has become a reliable name for fresh and expressive electronic music over the last decade, combining a deep knowledge and passion for dance music history with a fearless, forward-thinking approach to production and performance. A diverse range of influences, from his jazz upbringing and hip-hop roots to the outer realms of experimental rock and musique concréte can be heard in Aju’s unique sound.

Dave Aju remixes, DJ sets, and live performances are in high demand at labels, clubs, and festivals across the globe. And now, following the success and praise for his debut album Open Wide – created entirely with his mouth, and the acclaimed autobiographical follow-up Heirlooms, Aju is more active than ever further developing his musical universe, including some promising collaborations such as the voice of Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts’ new band project The Side Effects, new works for Matthew Herbert’s Accidental label and more recently the release of his 3rd studio album, Black Frames.

"This is a one-take vinyl mix of a few personal non-club classics that recall beautiful moments and people in my life. From the moment I first saw The Skull Sessions LP artwork in my father's collection as a kid, and being blown away at the first Tortoise show a good friend took me to almost 20 years ago, to landing in Brazil on tour with Arthur Verocai in the headphones, smashing down the 101 South freeway bumping J Dilla in summertime heat, or playing notorious SF bar nights with the Magnificent 7 DJ collective. 

Most of the records were just pulled from storage back home in the Bay Area last month and brought back overseas to Berlin, so in many ways this was like having a nice catch-up session with old friends while introducing them to some new ones I've met more recently. The mix was made in the cave with two Technics 1210 MK2s, a Rane Empath mixer, some pretty nasty back-up needles borrowed from Mike Shannon, and love."

It’s that time again, finally time for a new Adventures of Soul Clap Podcast! This episode comes from an old friend, the first person to ever book us in Amsterdam in fact (and at the legendary Trouw no less), DJ Melon. But before we ever even met, we were playing his dancefloor groovin’ Je Dàvu edits like I Need You Tonight and Music Got You Movin’ at our gigs all over Boston and soon the world.

Melon sure is one funky Dutchman, and his DJ sets take you on a ride through some serious booty moving funk, disco and house. So when he offered up these two awesome edits for Soul Clap Records we jumped at the chance and dropped them last month. Now we’re following it up with this beautiful mix for snowy winter mornings or sandy summer summer afternoons. Basically, whatever hemisphere you’re in, or whatever mood, Melon will make you feel better, and that’s why we love him!

Vinyl collector, DJ and producer Hun Choi (aka Hunee) is the rarest of artists.

Choi’s sets straddle genres without sounding like a forced education, showing both his wide array of knowledge and his deep understanding of the dancefloor. A Berlin resident for many years, Choi recently upped sticks and moved out to Amsterdam, so it seemed almost inevitable that he’d end up working with the city’s stories Rush Hour imprint.

The label released Hunee’s debut album Hunch Music earlier this year, and it highlighted just how versatile Choi is as a producer. Giving requisite nods to Detroit and Chicago, Choi tracks through house and techno’s cinematic side with a unique lightness, bringing his expertise and pacing as a DJ to his productions with ease.

That same expertise can be heard throughout Hunee’s FACT mix. There’s nothing showoffy here, rather Choi has hand-picked a selection of summery deep cuts from his extensive catalogue of rarities, blending fuzzy soul, melancholy disco, hypnotic Kosmische music and plenty more to emerge with a mix that practically demands the clouds to part.

Hunee will be performing at Farr Festival this summer – 16-18 July to be precise – so if you’re in the Hertfordshire area, make sure you head over to the Farr site to investigate the expansive lineup and snag tickets.

As usual with a Hunee mix there’s no tracklist, so get spotting.

In the week of our annual Dekmantel Festival, Swiss's finest Sassy J starts of the week just how it should. Combining the old and the new, there’s just one common denominator to her eclectic style of music she’s playing: soulfulness. Her versatility and technical skills come together in this mix, like we also witnessed in her Boiler Room performance she did for us in Barcelona.  Her taste of good music brought her to places like Worldwide Festival, London's Plastic People and let her release a mixtape on The Trilogy Tapes. Besides her own DJ career she invites the top of the notch to her own Patchwork parties in Bern (Theo Parrish, Steve Spacek, Rednose Distrikt, and MF DOOM to name a few). On top of that, she makes custom clothes like sweaters and shirts featuring Nina Simone, Larry Levan, and Sun Ra.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (16th October) With this years ADE in full swing, it's fitting that we welcome Amsterdam native and Rush Hour alumni Young Marco to the Solid Steel series. Following early releases on the aforementioned Rush Hour label, a string of well received remixes and a debut album Biology on ESP Institute, he returns in 2015 with Sorry For The Late Reply, a compilation of remixes released on his own Safe Trip label out early November. There's no track list, but there's a healthy dose of ambient and electronic cuts, alongside some deep techno selections to draw you in. If you're at ADE this weekend, you can catch Young Marco playing at 3 events, including Sunday night alongside Moodymann.

Bonnie & Klein aka George & Thanasis have been rising steadily in prominence with their eclectic productions on labels Music For Dreams, Timewarp and Uber and we are really happy to have them for the 20th instalment of our series.

Over the last couple of years, Dutch artist Mitchel van Dinther has slowly but surely been picking up a cult following as Jameszoo. His releases on Rush Hour’s daughter label Kindred Spirits have been inventive affairs that marry jazz, electronica and hip hop aesthetics together into a fresh new style. In the club, he is a stellar DJ who already played Dekmantel Festival twice and paired up with The Gaslamp Killer. Next to that he is a performer who cooks up wholly improvised shows teaming up with the likes of Dorian Concept, Julian Sartorius, Binkbeats, and Gideon van Gelder while he also played together with The Roots frontman Questlove as part of the RBMA in New York. 

Jameszoo’s sound is curious and compelling and the world is keenly awaiting on his highly anticipated debut album. For a taster of what to expect, the Dutchman made a selection of recordings that inspired him in making his first LP.

"It’s kind of whacky, but it comes from the heart,” says Anthony Naples about his Dekmantel podcast. Frankly, you would expect nothing less from the New York producer, who in just a couple of years has emerged as one of the most exciting artists in modern techno. His crowning glory to date was Body Pill, the album he released earlier this year on FourTet’s Text label after cult EPs on Miter Saturday Night and The Trilogy Tapes. His sound in the studio is raw and rugged, visceral and honest, melting together ambient and experimental tropes with his four four grooves. Importantly, his work in the DJ booth is just as idiosyncratic. 

From UDM’s disco to Theo Parrish’s shamanic house via DJ Sneak’s loopy jams and Fresh and Low’s slick tech, this is a wild mix that covers many stylistically diverse dance sounds in just 75 minutes. There are blends and fades, quick mixes and longer transitions and it lends the whole thing a live and authentic, playful, party starting style that is effortlessly enjoyable.

Arriving as something of a poster boy for the so called outsider house scene that emerged in 2013, Huerco S is Kansas born, Brooklyn based artist Brian Leeds. His sound is resolutely lo-fi, scuffed up and knackered, as proven by his Colonial Patterns LP on the Software label, which is a modern classic. Further EPs on Future Times and Antony Naples’s Proibito label have found him distilling his cerebral and atmospheric sounds yet further, with occult moods and foggy grooves encouraging listens to sink deep into his abstract but inviting worlds. 

As a DJ he is no more of a hurry to make an impact. This podcast he has put together is thoroughly absorbing from the off, with cavernous chambers of implicit rhythm, iridescent pads and loosely scattered hits slowly transforming into something resembling a groove. Later in the two-hours long recording, the mix serves proper house tunes with which Huerco S. proves to have a keen eye for the dance floor too.

The chances we were going to get an exclusive podcast from Ketiov (one of the duo that is Catz 'n Dogz) was slim to none. We have been trying for a couple of years now but between him dropping countless remixes, original productions, starting a music festival in Warsaw, running the Pets Recordings label, and world touring what seems like every weekend, we knew it would be a long shot. Until, today... when he threw us this gorgeous mix... It was entirely worth the wait.
