For the first edition of re:flect invites, @adalovvve tells a mesmerising story of an intense 3,5 days stay in post-lockdown Paris. Her mix is stocked with booth soothing and stirring sounds, framed by field recordings collected in the city. Ada, aka Clara, was born into a tightly knit family of musicians. She was musically socialised through the organ, piano, and choir within the church music world. When she moved to Krakow and Berlin, she gained insights into the liberating energies of club culture. Through her DJing, Ada also looks for opportunities to escape the demands of the often doctrinaire and exclusive music worlds (be it the club scene or the conservatory). This can be heard through her intimate and narrative mixes, where moods and experiences are translated into thoughtful sounds.

re:flect invites 01: Ada Luvv - Not in Luvv with Paris

So I weep

Last Saturday marked the one-year anniversary of the release of the first album by the Canadian label Montreal Dances Across Borders. This platform was born with the intention of collaborating directly with Solidarity Across Borders, an organisation that helps and integrates migrants. All the profits from sales go to this association, therefore, the vocation of this project is twofold, as in addition to helping Montreal Dances Across Borders financially, it also aims to promote the artists of this city and show that there is a quality and diverse music scene.

In this second release, the label has worked with another 10 artists from Montreal, and as with the previous album, each artist has had total freedom to create a piece in accordance with their musical line, and not with a homogeneous result in mind. We are therefore faced with a release that is impossible to define in one or a few words.

Montreal Dances Across Borders Vol.2 mixes different styles. HRT opts for accelerated electro-techno, Le Service Humain's track can be categorised as industrial and AN_NA's as a hypnotic vocal techno delight. Pulsum adopts an acid character, s.talbot goes for Detroit influences, Human Jungle and K-10 for old-school electro. Inside Blur's punchy techno pairs perfectly with the electronica of Remote Acces and the melodic techno beauty of DBY.

DJ Algorythm is the DJ project of the artist Vinnie Gotfredsen, known for her work as director and producer at Bedside Productions. Vinnie’s sound is an ecletic and quirky mashup of many genres including breakbeat, glitch, happy hardcore and trance. It’s soft, it’s hard, it’s cute and it’s sexy. Close your eyes and enjoy the ride with DJ Algorythm:

“I want to create a different musical experience where the listener will be challenged in their usual expectations of a dance floor set - it won’t necessarily be easy to enjoy and they might get obstructed in their dancing, but if they catch on beyond this point, a curiosity will be awaken and that’s where it gets interesting for me. Im all in for the mind-bending and deconstructing of the club but I will also please with alternative takes on pop classics and catchy high pitched vocals.

A lot of teenage nostalgia and internet-zooming lies behind my selection of tracks and Im hyper-aware of the symbolism and effect music have on people, that’s why I also tend to make my own edits of songs where I “feminize” vocals or cut out any trace of toxic masculinity - I believe in manifesting queerness through my music and I feel emotionally connected to all the tracks I play, so I hope the listener will get a sense of my personality when they listen to this mix.

It’s a big honour for me to release this mix for Ved Siden Af, a place where I at last in my life feel a sense of “belonging”

"Cuerpo Exanima" reprises the choir sampling of "Anima Minima" with a detailed and hypnotic drums work, topped with a futuristic rhythmic sound effects.

He has released essential listening material on West End Communications, Zodiac 44, Clan Destine Records among other labels, further revealing a wider range of work under the Dreadful Activist moniker.

The body of releases from his co-founded label serve as exciting benchmarks from decisive upcoming artists that’ve been handpicked to document an articulation / emotional expression in departments of acidic baselines, distorted 909s and a post-punk liking that commodifies harder, faster broken beat ambience.
