Following the release of his latest album ‘Oceanic’ (7K! Records) in February 2018, Niklas Paschburg presents a brand new track, that starts from J.S. Bach’s ‘Prelude In C Minor, BWV 847’ and takes the listener on a floating journey through the piano, synths and percussion that define his unique sound.

2018 was undoubtedly an intense year for the young German pianist, composer and producer Niklas Paschburg. It started with the release of his debut album ‘Oceanic’ via 7K! Records, followed by an intense period of live shows that took him across Europe in a single one-man-band-show and that grew in power and confidence along the way.

Having lived the last couple years in a tiny and isolated village near Nuremberg, after a year on-the-road, taking in 60 shows including concerts and sessions, Hamburg-born Niklas finally found a new base in Berlin.

Niklas supported Danish WhoMadeWho throughout their 2018 European tour and as well as sharing the stage with an eclectic range of artists including The Orb, Blonde Redhead, Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Bath. He also performed headline and festival shows in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Czech Republic and. Lithuania, developing a steadily growing live audience and a huge following on Spotify and Apple Music.

This live period culminated in his January 2019 performance at Eurosonic Festival in a crowded church. Niklas performed ‘Blooming (In C Minor)’ for the first time to widespread audience acclaim. The track represents the beginning of a fresh direction for Niklas in the run up to a new album scheduled for the end of 2019.

‘Blooming (In C Minor)’ is the studio-version of a live track, born from the desire to experiment with classical music applied to synthesizers. The piece comes from a composition of Bach (Prelude In C Minor - BWV 847), a composition that Niklas was made to play during his studies and had almost come to hate. Now it formed the basis for ‘Blooming (In C Minor)’ and was developed through a series of experiments with Bach live on stage between spring and winter 2018. 

‘Blooming (In C Minor)’ was produced and mixed by Gijs Van Klooster (who also produced his album ‘Oceanic’) at the Red House Studio in Amsterdam. The track represents a breakthrough in Niklas Paschburg’s sound. His main instrument the piano remains the focus but this new direction is more progressive, taking the listener on a journey between synthesizers, loops and his unique, soft drumming.

The seven minute long track combines Bach with both psychedelic and pop influences and includes a nod to the dancefloor. It’s a journey that shifts the boundaries of classical music and how it can be perceived.

German techno titan, Timo Maas joins forces with the Stripped Down label for a brand new single ‘Utopie’, backed with remixes from Digital 21 & Stefan Olsdal and Joe Metzenmacher & Borka & The Gang. Timo Maas has been a constant presence on the electronic music stage since the mid Nineties, rocketing to global super stardom off the back of his hugely popular ‘Dooms Night’ remix. Season’s on the white isle, a constant touring schedule and a raft of releases for some of the best labels followed, with music dropping on the likes of Perfecto, Bush, My Favorite Robot, Mobilee and of course his own Rockets and Ponies imprint. Now, the Hannover based artist joins forces with Claudio Ricci’s excellent Stripped Down Records for his latest musical offering which features vocals from Rottler. ‘Utopie’ is a stripped back and hypnotic affair that marries spoken word vocals over a sparse but enthralling soundtrack. Subtle sound design and understated drum programming make this a deep and discerning cut that is sure to bring new fans to both label and artist. The first of the remixes comes from Digital 21 & Stefan Olsdal , which sees the Spanish producer team up with the Placebo bassist for something rather special. Maas has in fact a long standing relationship with the band, having remixes previous Placebo singles and featured singer Brian Molko on his own productions. Here, Olsdal and Digital 21 deliver a mesmerising mix that fuses Batucada style rhythms with a powerfully cinematic string section, making this a a hugely dramatic opus. Finally, Joe Metzenmacher & Borka & The Gang turn in a dark edged and techy reworking that provides a perfect closer to this superb package. With more remixes of ‘Utopie’ to come later in the year, and Timo’s remix of Rodriquez Jr.’s ‘Blisss’ dropping on Mobilee soon, this is shaping up to be a super productive year for the musical maestro. It was at the beginning of the global social distancing period that record label, Odd One Inn, initiated a project that would see two South African based DJ/Producers commit to creating one song each week during lockdown.

The two musicians, Mr. Blasé and blaqkongo, are firmly rooted in the electronic music scene - both exploring various sub-genres including House (Deep and Tech), Techno and everything else in between.

During the five weeks, both kept their followers engaged with a slew of well-crafted tracks that explored both concepts of easy listening charm, as well as dancefloor heavy-hitters, where of course the electronic music genre is most at home.

The two have now announced that they will release some of the music that has been spawned by the project with an official release date of 19 June.

blaqkongo delivers a tasty four track EP titled “38 Days 38 Ways” - the title is reflective of the number of days it took to craft the EP and the cathartic creative process that the artist underwent during lockdown.

Awash with low slung grooviness, lush synth work and nimble use of vocal samples, each track on this EP will no doubt find fans among those followers of such groove luminaries as Detroit Swindle, Atjazz and Joe Kay, to name a few.

While COVID has wrecked havoc in the daily routines of many, these two artists have managed to sidestep some of the sombreness around this period to deliver two releases that breathe life into the electronic music scene.

Alland Byallo - Dilatant ft Matt Paull (Atjazz Remix)

The solo output of Reykjavik producer Janus Rasmussen can be best understood as a distillation of his many diverse collaborations to date. Originally from the Faroe Islands, Janus has spent the better part of the last decade creating, performing, and innovating with other artists across myriad musical genres, amassing a wealth of experience and inspiration that he now condenses into his own brand of experimental electronic music. 

Janus’s debut solo album Vín, saw him hone his minimal techno chops into an hour-long exploration of acoustic textures and electronic sound design that peaks and lulls like a well-crafted DJ set. In his most recent work, he meshes Vín’s dancefloor rhythms and dark sonic palette with his own vocals to craft a unique, melodic sound that runs counter to the prevailing current of electronic dance music.

Aside from his own music, Janus performs alongside Ólafur Arnalds as one half of KIASMOS.
