With the release of Baker Boy’s new album 'DJANDJAY' (pron. Jan-jay) out now, the multi-award winning Yolŋu superstar, also unveils brand-new single ’RUNNING LOW’ featuring US Rapper Pardyalone. A track that floats on an infectious, melodic hook but carries a deeper weight underneath of burnout, grief, and distance from home. “I was talking about being on the road, the pressure to create - but also the sacrifice of living away from community, of missing funerals and carrying that weight,” Baker Boy says. “It was a favourite from the demo, originally, I sang the hook, but bringing in Pardyalone gave it this crazy energy. His voice just hits.”

Sonically, Baker Boy boldly leans into punk for the first time, while still rapping in his first language Yolŋu Matha. Lyrically, Baker Boy channels his anger and frustration into vivid declarations of pride through powerful bars that mirror the colours and symbolism of the Aboriginal flag; “My pigment is my pride...red dirt, gold chains, blak knight, thick skin”.
 
Following the acclaim of his 5 x ARIA Award-winning debut album ‘Gela’, including Album Of The Year, ‘DJANDJAY’ is Baker Boy’s most emotionally layered and creatively evolved work yet. Named in honour of his late grandmother, ‘DJANDJAY’ also pays homage to the Yolŋu spiritual figure of the same name: a guiding octopus spirit that leads souls forward.

The 14-track ‘DJANDJAY’ album will include previously released singles ’THICK SKIN’, ‘PEACEKEEPER’, ‘FREAK OUT feat. Briggs and Haiku Hands’, ‘LIGHTNING’ feat. REDD. and will also include features from friends and collaborators Pardyalone (US), and Jean Deaux (US).

Khruangbin is a band from Texas, started in 2011 by Laura Lee (bass), Mark Speer (guitar), and DJ (drums). We like to make music in a barn. 

Vök is a dream-pop/indie-electro band from Iceland.
Vök was formed in January 2013 to enter an annual band contest in Iceland, 'Músíktilraunir' (Music Trials).The problem? They didn't actually have any songs. Yet within a few weeks they were at the contest performing their brand new tracks. In a twist of fate (and talent) won the competition.

Vök’s sound mixes wistful electronics and melodic vocals, distant saxophones and reverberating guitars. Think The xx’s hypnotism, The Knife’s sexual tension and Poliça’s playful overdubbing.

Going Down Swinging works across platforms to produce high quality publications and events that support writers and artists telling stories worth sharing. Going Down Swinging is one of Australia’s longest-running and most respected literary journals: publishing digital as well as print and audio anthologies since 1979 and producing special, sold-out live events. We believe in fostering a community of writers and artists dedicated to their craft and the ideas behind it. We encourage the creation of new work, and support this by placing great value on editorial feedback and development for those voices still emerging.

The most common number of editions for a new literary journal to survive is one. The next most common, two. To make three or four is a triumph. To survive 37 years of them is almost miraculous. Today, Going Down Swinging is a literary journal at the forefront of both digital and print culture, with the willingness to take to the stage wherever an audience can be found.
