Passionnés par les musiques alternatives, allant du reggae et ses dérivés jusqu’aux musiques électroniques, ces 3 amis ont décidé de créer leur propre entité qui a vu le jour sous la forme d’une association. Leur nom, qui fait référence au mythique son de Mikey Dread sorti sur le label Dread at the control, définit bien le style des bonhommes, un set lourd en basses, une configuration composée de 2 platines, 1 sampleur et d’une multitude d’effets. Préparez vous à trembler au rythme d’une sélection évolutive qui vous fera voyager depuis les racines du reggae jamaïcain jusqu’au stepper d’aujourd’hui.

Chanter pour émanciper la femme africaine. 
Une rencontre unique entre les berceuses bantu du Congo, les musiques électroniques et le hip-hop. Un projet hybride qui fait la part belle à la danse et qui met en lumière le quotidien de la femme congolaise d'une façon audacieuse et surtout connectée avec son temps.

"Les Mamans du Congo" is a unique encounter between Gladys Samba dit Mama Glad, the owner of the Bantu lullabies of the Congo, and Rrobin, the beatmaker who speaks to the ear of house and rap, a figurehead of the Galant Records* label. On stage, Les Mamans du Congo give pride of place to dance to Rrobin's bewitching rhythms, highlighting the daily life of Congolese women in a daring and above all connected with their time.

Gladys Samba, chanteuse et percussionniste renommée, avait depuis des années pour volonté de faire revivre et de vulgariser les berceuses de la République du Congo, considéré comme un véritable matrimoine culturel de sa région. En 2018, avec l'aide de l’Institut Français du Congo, elle y parvient à travers la réalisation du spectacle "Les Mamans du Congo". Fourchettes, assiettes, paniers, pilons et matériel de récupération accompagnent avec rythme et subtilité les voix des cinq Mamans du Congo.

De son côté en France, l'artiste Rrobin explore depuis 2013 les musiques électroniques et le hip-hop. Il réalise en 2018 l'album Déluge en collaboration avec des invités de marque comme Grems, Spoek Mathambo, Nancy Fortune ou Hedi Yusef. Plus récemment, Rrobin a été amené à travailler avec La Coopérative de Mai (Clermont Ferrand) dans le cadre de son dispositif consacré aux jeunes talents. Côté label, Rrobin est un des artistes éminents du label Galant Records. Côté spectacle, il fait partie de notre roster depuis 2018.

L'Institut Français du Congo et la Coopérative de Mai, partenaires sur le projet "Visa pour la Création", ont alors l'idée de se faire rencontrer Maman Glad' et Rrobin afin de créer un mélange inédit de sonorités traditionnelles et de sons actuels. C'est à l'automne 2019 que Rrobin décide de se rendre à Brazzaville avec Céline Frezza - ingénieure du son et directrice artistique de Galant Records - pour 10 jours de maquettage en studio. Le projet prend alors vie à travers l'enregistrement des premières maquettes. L'envie commune d'en faire un album et surtout une tournée devient évidente à l'écoute des titres.

Zéro Gravity est le side-project électro ambient de Johann Guillon.

Autodidacte et infatigable créateur, Zéro Gravity enchaîne les explorations sonores depuis 30 ans. Membre fondateur d'EZ3kiel, il s'aventure ensuite dans le hip-hop et la techno sous le nom de "Feeblegrind" et rejoint également le groupe "The Bilbao Gaga Memories". Créateur de bandes sonores pour des mappings ou des courts-métrages, il a plus d'une corde à son arc.

Avec son projet Zéro Gravity, il propose une approche à la fois sombre et lumineuse d'une musique organique, céleste et hypnotique.

«Evolve» présente l’aboutissement de l’évolution musicale d'Uzul. Depuis ses débuts aux machines dans Kaly Live Dub (PIAS/JFX), en passant par beatmaker dans le duo breakbeat & techno Hybrid Sound System (Sounds Around) puis dans le groupe electro hiphop Uzulprod (Expressillon), Uzul révèle aujourd’hui son projet solo live Techno & Bassmusic.

Après avoir sorti plusieurs EPs vinyles sur Expressillon (Spiral tribes, Interlope…) et I.O.T Records, puis plusieurs EPs digitaux sur Elastica records (IT) Future Followers (UK), Mallabel records (USA) et ODG (FR), Uzul dévoile « EVOLVE » son premier album solo, fruit de la collaboration avec Jarring Effects.

Cet opus est un cocktail musical réunissant les différents styles musicaux qui ont pu influencer Uzul durant sa carrière. Le dub, l’acid techno, le dubstep, se retrouvent subtilement mélangés  dans ce singulier projet Techno & Bassmusic.

Opening this Big Youth album – the first since more than a decade – here is one of his most powerful hymns, « I Pray Thee », unexpectedly revisited by Brain Damage. A padded atmosphere, with languorous jazz melodies, emphasizes the thundering incantations of the legendary Jamaican master. This being a perfect introduction to the unprecedented musical breakout concocted by both artists that, while in the middle of the pandemic, refuse to slump and know no bounds to the vitality of their art.

... a story in History

… or how to condense in a sound bite, the incredible and terrible journey, experienced by Martin Nathan and his longtime friend Samuel Clayton Jr, both gone to Jamaica in March 2020, for a collaboration with the legendary Big Youth. The context of a first and unprecedented world lockdown has only left them very little time to record the takes with the famous DJ, before they both contracted the virus. Martin Nathan was lucky enough to be able to get back to France, although had to remain confined and to take care of himself alone in his studio during five weeks upon his return. Samuel Clayton Jr, however, did not come back, struck down by the disease in Kingston.

The iron determination of the producer, supported by his label Jarring Effects and the Jamaican producer Stephen Stewart, did nonetheless bring the project to completion.

For his part, one thing is certain, Big Youth is in great shape! He brilliantly signs his return with that album, made up almost exclusively of new pieces, the first in many years! In the very words of the numerous prominent musicians and singers who witnessed the takes at Anchor studios in Kingston, he has lost none of his verve: « …you still get it, man! ». Sparkling and inexhaustible, distilling an amazing variety of vocal styles, that he created himself, he recalls at once “the old days”, the golden age of Jamaican reggae in the 1960 & 70’s, performs his version somewhat conspiracist, of the sanitary crisis, evokes his faith and tells about love … while perfectly merging into each universe offered by Brain Damage.

As if we are delighted to hear the elder’s shape and inventiveness, Martin Nathan is definitely not outdone and overhauls his style once again for the occasion. Always more musical, his compositions integrate diverse influences, hitherto untapped by him, like jazz, blues, ska, rock-steady … enhanced by the wonderful and smooth horn arrangements signed by Franck Boyron and his sidekicks, Baptiste Sarat and Fred Roudet. The whole, drawing on a production that left nothing to chance, surely is a new cornerstone of Brain Damage rich discography that keeps us wondering how far it will take us anew.

Samuel Clayton Jr, however, will be deeply missed. If one can hear him regularly and clearly as samples, throughout what will remain the last album he worked on, it is above all his mindset that Martin Nathan
strove to respect with that new musical and human adventure.

The emotion is audible, tangible.
