I've just uploaded an updated file for this piece. This is still a work in progress (aren't they all until) however far better sounding if you have Build021 or earlier. For my DJ friends amongst you playing this out, download this version and ditch the old version. For this booty, I managed to find the original acapella of Janet and recreated new instrumentation from scratch using hardware analogue synths and made new drums using a layered combo  of exposed hits from the original. The Sequential Circuits Pro-One does the main snarly bassline throughout and the Oberheim Matrix 1000 is doing the pads and stabs. In software synth world, the Korg Legacy Collection MonoPoly is doing the summery arpeggiated parts. Since this old project pulls up OK now in 2017, more progress will be forthcoming on this piece.

JANET JACKSON What Have You Done For Me Lately (JaseFOS Re-Edit) - 116bpm - WorkInProgBuild028

Ha ha! If I had management, they would probably advise me against uploading this but some of you asked for it so here it is - warts and all! This crusty old recording from my archives is of an improvised acid-techno/breaks jam, recorded live back in 1998, straight from the back of my budget mixing console, playing the lead-up set to the mighty Luke Slater! 

The entire set was improvised on the fly using Cubase 2.8 running on a Pentium 133mHz (MIDI only, pre VST version of Cubase - i.e. no audio) to drive a the first version of Rebirth (lots of fake 303 tweaking), Roland Juno 106 (with liberal dashings of guitar stomp box distortion), Roland D5, Ensoniq ASR10 (handed a bulk of the drum sounds, sampled analogues and sampled vocals/speech) and Korg DW8000. I'd basically import Cubase Part files on the fly for drums patterns and spit them out to the Ensoniq ASR10, and then stick Cubase in Cycle Record mode and make up elements on the fly on the synths and record them in ... Very risky, but heck, that was half the fun! Couldn't even vaguely repeat this set ;)

Listen without prejudice - this was long before I started recording and releasing studio tracks and my engineering skills were in their infancy. However, the above said, you cannot deny the intensity and ideas in this set (it went off). LOL … Enjoy annoying your neighbours!

JaseFOS Live Set 1998 - Raw Recording (DJMag Presents Luke Slater)

This piece was done back in 2000 when I was going through a bit of an angry phase! All sounds came from a mighty Jupiter 8 shoved through amp simulators on a Ensoniq DP4, multi tracked and edited in Cubase 5 VST/32 running on a Pentium 233mmx with 64Mb of RAM using a lowly SoundBlaster card. Percussion came from a custom Gigasampler drum kit I made. Enjoy ;)

JaseFOS - Protoplasm - Demo [DEC 2000]

This is a cover I produced  in 2006 of a mid 90s pop tune from Australian band, The Underground Lovers, called "Losing It" featuring the wonderful vocal talents of Kate Brechany. In the truest sense of a cover, no original master recordings were sampled and the male vocal of the original was instead performed by Kate. Keep in mind this was a demo produced while I was still into the same style and vocal production tricks I did for Do What U Want since this was produced 4 years after roughly.

This is your Game is an ancient dark-side Drum'n'Bass tune  I produced in 1998 from the dusty archives of my hard drive being my first studio produced tracked in a DAW (Cubase Audio with a Yamaha CBX-D5 audio interface). This tune made an appearance on Optimum Recordings (Perth, Australia)debut compilation, Tides in Motion (released 1999). No plug-in synths were used - this is all hardware baby! My monitoring speakers and engineering skills were sub par back then however there are some solid ideas in this tune I feel. Enjoy!

JaseFOS - This Is Your Game [1998]

This was the first tune my old band from the early 90s, Sensory Overload, wrote. This tune is primarily myself and Brendan Slaven, written a couple of weeks before Jamie Side joined us. Gear used: Cubase 1.0 on Windows 3.0 (486SX25 PC with 4Mb of RAM), Korg 05RW, Roland D5, Ensoniq SQ1 ... that's it! No plugins and DAWs back then! 

SENSORY OVERLOAD (JaseFOS And Brendan Slaven) Infirm - Original Demo [1994]

Just found this one in the archives which was originally released on Nine09 Records in Sydney on Esoteric Psychology back in 2001. This piece was recorded entirely from hardware synths namely the Kawai K5000s, Ensoniq EPS16+, Korg DW8000 and Jupiter 8. These were sequenced from Cubase 2.8 (MIDI only version from 1996?), and, while I tweaked the knobs, recorded the output of my crappy Ross Systems 16x2 mixer via my Turtlebeach Pinnacle soundcard. Enjoy on a non-domestic HiFi and please excuse my engineering skills of the day - it WAS 2001 after-all and I haven't touched the file since then. Enjoy!

JaseFOS DroidXP39 (Live Mixdown) [Sept  2001]

V8 Pussy was originally released on a limited run of 200 12" vinyl in 2001 and then later on Nine09's Esoteric Psychology compilation. This is a nice dark-and-dirty breaks tune I wrote while my engineering skills were in their infancy- excuse the muddy mix!  This tune was put together using Cubase 3 VST/24 on a Pentium 233mmx with 32Mb of RAM on Windows 98.  The bassline was created on my vintage Korg DW8000 which has a character I've yet to achieve on other synths and is my favourite part of this piece. The drums were programmed using a mix of Ensoniq ASR10 and Gigasampler. Lead melody lines and some pads came from a Kawai K5000s. Roland Juno 106 also features on this piece. The speech sample is taken from the movie, Gummo, in the scene where a bunch of rednecks have a drunken punch up in their kitchen after smashing up the furniture. Watching this film sparked the whole idea ...

JaseFOS - V8 Pussy [2000 JAN]

A work in progress I thought I'd share with you since many of my friends ask "So when are you going to release more music?". Yeah, that old chestnut! Behind the scenes I have 100s of tunes on the go ... I just have an extreme "quality control" filter and I'm a perfectionist. OK this piece isn't perfect (looking forward to more acid tweaking) and making improvements to the percussion. I'm sharing this just because it's got a vibe and it's fun. Unmastered but will be when it's finished. Be warned this is not completely mixed yet - you may want some kick ass speakers to play it on like my Quested S8Rs! Please destroy this version when I share the final version.

Snog held a remix competition a couple of years ago for one of my favourite tunes, Corporate Slave. Yes, it's dark and depressing but back in 1993 it was huge favourite.

I was digging through the archives this afternoon and came across this piece inspired by the NuSchool Breaks movement around the late 90s/00s. 

Back around March 2000, I whipped up this reasonably dark and foreboding tune on Cubase 5 VST/32 on my Pentium 233mmx with 32Mb of RAM and a Turtlebeach Pinnacle sound card. Most of the synth sounds were generated from the hardware I had in the day - most noteworthy being the Kawai K5000s, Juno 106 and Ensoniq EPS16+. As with most of my pieces back then, my engineering skills were in their infancy, and my monitoring setup was nothing fancy (Bose HiFi bookshelf speakers - LOL).

This piece was released on a compilation showcasing Perth-based underground musicians called "Kiss My WAMI". 

Perhaps, I should consider giving this one a re-working or proper mastering? The original project files will be difficult to work on nowadays, but it's definitely possible thanks to time capsuling this very same DAW PC that ran this project back then.
