I can imagine shaking my arse about to this. Funky. and I like the distant voices. you use reverb very well to create space. one of the reasons you win I think.

Nice one ! Lovely combinations of textures and timbres. Rhytmically superb too. And as such most enjoyable throughout.

I like that bass sound on the sides generating more energy. Great work

Cakewalk DAW processing:
- Gain on buses, for mixing.
- EQ on final bus: High pass, low pass, small bump at 3kHz.
No compression, etc.

**Surge Storm** is an exploration of sound design in physical instruments and sounds. These are all my own patches, some of which are included in Surge. Most of the physical instruments here mimic generation and body resonances researched from real instruments, driven by controllers for mechanical setup and playing actions. This gives me a dynamic instrument that responds in a variety of articulations and styles, without needing samples.

Here, I've used a few time signatures. It has a wide dynamic range and frequency coverage, so you'll get the most from ideal listening conditions. Unfortunately, the thunder sound has lost a lot of its character here in the lo-fi Soundcloud playback. The download will give you the best experience.

Using the SunVox DAW & Modula Synth

As Zara and her compatriots investigate the anomaly, they discover a hidden world of secrets and lies. They also uncover an alarming truth about the anomaly itself: it is not just a random occurrence, but a deliberate attempt by a powerful entity to alter the very fabric of reality.

The Utopia Anomaly

Made with one instance of Alchemy in Logic, played live for OSC 167. Tried to reproduce the sound i remember playing recitals as a kid in a large hall that was rented out at the time. I used a compressor to ensure no peaks and a channel eq with a gentle shelving cut to remove some low-end flutter I couldn't figure out how to tame with synthesis or Alchemy's built-in EQ. No other plugins. Fun synthesis challenge, combined with a compositional challenge.
