My New Friend - Mary's aria.

"My New Friend" is the newest chapter of "Everyone Loves a Sailor" an operatic sci-fi series by Jesse Gelaznik featuring soprano Elly Kace  and autoharp by H. Leon Harris. Artwork by Jonathan Johansen. 

"Everyone Loves a Sailor" a sci-fi music series by Jesse Gelaznik. Set on the ocean planet Thela in a distant galaxy, two unlikely friends (Mary the pirate and Javelin a runaway android) set sail on a quest to take back the Mirror of Light, stolen by a Sad King of the Sea who dwells in his water palace with the ghost of his lost love.

Live performance by pianist Sarah Cahill of Harold Budd's "Children on the Hill" at Society for Minimalist Music's 2009 conference. 

In 1982, Budd improvised a 24-minute version at New Music America in Chicago. Kyle Gann heard it there and spent many hours transcribing it note by note, and Sarah did her best to recreate Budd's expressive touch and rubato.

Written in June 2019 as part of International Music Festival of the Adriatic (IMFA). Performed in Duino, Italy on June 26, 2019 by Hope Willenbrink (Soprano) and Hannah Hawes (Piano). Featuring a few Italian bees : )

'Internal Rhythms' is composed of three short movements:

I. internal rhythms
II. moving water
III. sunrise color

This piece was written as part of the 2019 International Music Festival of the Adriatic in Duino, Italy. It was performed at the UWC Auditorium in Duino on July 2, 2019, by the following wonderful musicians:

For Canticum Ostrava Choir, 2019

“My Voice” for choir asks how we as individuals can listen to ourselves within large groups and in our personal relationships. Throughout the majority of the work, the tempo for each singer is determined by their pulse. What is heard is the coming together of each individual listening to their own body as they are here and now. The piece is section based with slight time variations for each section determined by the conductor in the moment. Each performance is a unique expression of individuals coming together as their bodies are in this space and time, noticing and seeing each other with the presence of the audience. This work was written for Canticum Ostrava choir, Ostrava Days 2019. The text is adapted from Oscar Wilde’s poem “My Voice”.

Jason Cady composes opera, instrumental and electronic music; and performs on pedal steel guitar and modular synthesizer. His video opera—I Screwed Up the Future—was described by Anthony Tommasini in the New York Times as a “charming fantasy…drably comic and spacey.” Opera News described his most recent opera as “delightfully weird.” Cady  has an MA from Wesleyan University where he studied with Alvin Lucier and Anthony Braxton. He was born in 1974 in Flint, Michigan and has lived in New York City since 2001.
