HoneyLuv makes her debut on Danny Howard’s Nothing Else Matters imprint this January, teaming up with New York DJ, producer, singer-songwriter and vocalist, Roland Clark for their brand-new single, ‘This Is My Life’.

Crowned Radio 1’s Future Star of 2023, HoneyLuv has taken the Dance scene by storm in recent years with support from MK, Nicole Moudaber, Mau P, Arielle Free, Matthias Tanzmann and Low Steppa, with releases signed to Black Book, Insomniac, Higher Ground, All We Have Is Now and more. Roland on the otherhand has worked and co-produced music with many of the greats including Fatboy Slim, Mark Knight, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez and Bob Sinclair with his vocals considered the “voice of House”.

One of the rare few that can bring you an electrifying DJ set and at the same time get on the mic and give you a performance unlike no other. Making for the perfect pairing, ‘This Is My Life’ looks set to propel both artists to even greater heights and is sure to be a firm favourite at clubs and festivals worldwide this year.

British icon, DJ and producer IDRIS returns to Defected with house heater ‘Sima Agua’, featuring Cape Verdean singer and activist Mayra Andrade. Continuing a string of releases on the London label in 2024, including his Together series remix of Fish Go Deep’s iconic club anthem ‘The Cure + The Cause’ and infectious original ‘La Trumpeta’, Idris Elba’s house sound is currently dominating the club scene. As more releases are revealed, the DJ and producer aims to bring his global sound to the world stage, now working with vocalist Mayra Andrade. Having recorded music across Portugal, France, and her home of Cape Verde, the internationally acclaimed Mayra Andrade is also a proud LGBTQ+ rights activist, serving as an ambassador for the United Nations ‘Free And Equal’ campaign since 2015. This latest collaboration, ‘Sima Agua’, combines spoken word sections with hard-hitting percussion and Mayra’s evocative topline, creating an international house heater that celebrates the sound of Cape Verde in all its vivid beauty.

In an increasingly saturated electronic music landscape, there’s something captivating about a track that comes together almost by accident, yet stands out with a clear, confident identity. That’s the case with “Often”, a track born during a daytime studio session, sparked by a spontaneous groove from a Moog bass. From that moment, the direction was set: intentional minimalism and a groove that just works.

The track came to life over two focused sessions — a nine-hour creative marathon followed by a tighter four-hour wrap-up. But what makes “Often” especially compelling is its stripped-back approach: fewer than 30 stems, a lead synth with subtle Middle Eastern flair, and drums that hit just hard enough to own a peak-time main set.

One standout anecdote shows how studio “accidents” can lead to breakthroughs: the main kick was accidentally muted for nearly an hour. In the meantime, the track was built entirely around the bass. When the kick finally returned, everything clicked — like the last piece of a puzzle. The moment was a powerful reminder of the importance of negative space in production — sometimes the absence of a sound shapes the track more than the sound itself.
