Opus Black is the brainchild of Michael Gray (Full Intention, MGNY) and Andy Haeffele (Crystal Clear, Mob Serenade).

Following an introduction from a mutual friend and a slightly hungover meeting on the way back from ADE, the pair decided to combine forces musically and see what would happen when producers traditionally from different scenes collided on a tune.

The result is a solid mix of filtered disco house that tips its hat to Stardust and the other French masters. Combine this with catchy vocals, harking back to early Royksopp (courtesy of Andy himself and co-writer Stella Attar) and you’ve got something good.

The vocals describe that feeling, where no matter where you look, you keep catching a glimpse of that certain someone.

Electronic Youth turn in probably their best remix to date. A production duo who smashed it all over Ibiza this summer and hotly tipped to make their mark in 2014 their remix is deep, warm and lush. A Depeche Mode-esque feel compliments the vocal hooks creating an aural delight!

From the very first version, the track was already moving close to 140 BPM.  Then it got remixed to death before an unauthorized version appeared which was 150 BPM plus.  This is the original Brooklyn Warehouse Redux which was slowed down to 133 BPM, to let it breathe a little bit.  Sounds much better this way, trust me.

We sometimes forget that music is cyclical. As a new generation of clubbers discover sounds for the first time, they mistakenly believe the decades old genres are somehow a new phenomenon. The styles we attach to the terms techno, trance, progressive, and house are moving targets at best — words that are now redefined on an almost weekly basis.

Cycles is Max Graham’s “Yearly Snapshot” of his own musical journey, a collection representing the natural progression in his taste. As always with Cycles the elements of melody shine through this classically mixed compilation (like Graham’s own ‘Redemption’ and his remix of Solid Stone and Jennifer Rene’s haunting vocal tune ‘Not Enough’), but much like his successful career over so many years the mix takes a wide arc of influence as it moves from Tim Penner’s lovely piano opening to Alex Di Stefano’s tough as nails “Black Panther” and back down to a perfectly fitting closing track by Gai Barone entitled “Psycles” (written exclusively for this mix). 

Solid Stone, a mainstay in Graham’s set list, has no less than three unreleased tracks. Also making two appearances is rising star Thomas Vink whose production style effortlessly combines organic Techno beats with beautiful melody and emotion. From Guy J’s progressive label Lost n Found to Techno’s Drumcode and Yin Yang Cycles once again celebrates all that’s good on that dance floor regardless of genre. 

Like Cycles Radio this compilation showcases the ongoing diversity and evolution in Graham’s sound, it’s the closest representation to what you’ll feel at a 6+ hour Open to Close set condensed into 78 minutes of well constructed bliss. As the musical landscape changes we welcome this, the 6th revolution of Cycles and are eager to see where the pioneer heads next.

Poker Flat capture Mark Henning in a rich vein of form for this EP of deadly deep and intense tech house. For almost a decade, the Anglo-German, Berlin-based DJ has turned out consistent releases on an array of underground labels, but here his trademark combination of darkness, swing and technoid funk reaches new levels.

'Pusher' is a modern masterpiece: tough, crisp and fine-tuned for deployment on Stonehenge-sized speaker stacks, it's a tune that envelops you, the introduction of each individual element staggered for maximum effect. 'Somebody let me get my sh*t,' the repeated vocal declares: a request the tune responds to magnificently.

The kinetic shuffle of 'Swingers' follows a similar trajectory, overwhelming the listener with its relentless energy. 
Through the simple yet spooky Hitchcockian device of a single repeated piano note 'Triple 13' hypnotises, a trippy snatch of processed vocal providing a hallucinatory edge, while 'Satin' explores dreamier territory with a reverberating New Age synth motif. 

All four tracks are masterclasses in restraint from a producer who can combine deceptively simple elements to make a resounding and inimitable emotional impact. Aptly named, this EP is simply the only drug you'll need.
