Squared Up, Headlong, And Gettin' Gone

I was sitting on the edge of my bed looking at my Washburn acoustic guitar propped up in the corner of my room. A flood of feelings rushed over about "My Life", and so this song was born. I'm really a crap guitar player, I really used to always be lit, I truly adore my wife and family, and I very much miss the ones who are dead and gone. So, this song is genuine if nothing else. 
Where you've been, where you are now, and where you WERE going are often wildly different scenarios. As they say, life has it's ups and downs. I think it's important to be grateful for the ups, recognize the difference, and understand that you don't deserve the ups. You are granted them, but by no doing of your own. This is my perspective, and the lens through which this song was written.

My Life

So, my wife kept after me about writing her a song. Although she's found wandering around in several of my songs,  I had not written a straightforward tune completely in her honor. Anyway, instead of a ballad, I sat down and wrote this song for my wife. It just sort of came out, off the cuff,  in traditional blues style.

Emotionally, typically men are supposed to stay in their lane, so to speak. This song speaks to those often buried feelings that men go through, which are hard to speak about, or to write about. To be vulnerable, fearful, or reticent, even in a romantic way, are not considered in most circles to be "manly" things. But they are human things, which men nonetheless experience at times

Can't Find The Words

This song is about the kind of heartbreak that brings a literal flood of emotional pain. Romantic love is a beautiful thing, but it can be devastating when you lose it.
