Lose the map.

The borders that crop up when people take genres seriously have never been all that useful.  With electronic music it has been especiallyfruitless to try and map the shifting sands; where does nu-proto-tech-gaze end and afro-schaffel-disco-wave begin?

The idea of taking an aimless road trip through music brings a little romance back to into the picture. We can leave hash tags, recommendation algorithms and linkbait articles like "The Top Ten Trip-Hop Songs About Lists" behind in some grey concrete terminal city industrial park. Get the car out onto the road and go where things take you. Pull your eyes up from the screen in your hand and lose the sterile GPS voice hectoring you about missed turns.  If you need to pass the slower cars by driving on the dirt median with your headlights off in the dead of night, so be it. It's OK to lose the map, you'll still get to where you need to be.

Sawlin and Subjected are a production duo from Berlin. Since meeting in 2006 courtesy of fellow producer Mørbeck, they have released definitive techno 12"s on Subjected's self-run imprint Vault Series. As a solo producer Sawlin has also released music on Delsin's sub label Ann Aimee and French label Technorama.

With such a strong heritage and stable of releases we caught up with the duo to discuss their affair with techno and reasons for starting up their own record label. The mix was recorded at Subjected's studio in Berlin and is 100% live. Sawlin used Ableton, an APC and an iPad, whilst Subjected used Traktor Pro with a Native Instruments Maschine to generate something completely new for us.

Velten Doering aka Dirty Doering was born in Leipzig in 1978,
but grew up in the Black Forest in southern Germany.
He started DJing professionally at the age of 19, and soon followed his career to Berlin.
He rose quickly as a part of the club and underground scene in Berlin, and
soon the most influential locations such as "BAR25" (resident),...
"Watergate", "Tresor", "Club 103", "Arena", "HomeSweetHome","Bachstelzen","Rote Sonne",
"Maria" and "Weekend" became the places to frequently see Dirty Doering
playing his sexy electronic dance sound.

Performances of his interpretation of the Berlin sound followed at the
"Fusion" and "Melt!" festivals (Germany), Studio88 (France), Nadsat (Kopenhagen)
"Fabric" (London), "Sonar" Festival (Spain),"Klubbers Day" (Madrid) and many more international locations and events.
In addition to his DJ tours, back in Berlin, he continued with other related activities.

Together with his DJ colleague André Gardeja, he successfully ran the famous DJ record "freizeitglauben" for several years.
He set up a well known party series, the "labradorbar", among others.
In 2006 he founded the label "ALLYOUCANBEAT" with Housemeister.

Then he created the label "Rauschenbach Music" under which he producedes his own releases.
He has created remixes for artists such as Housemeister, Oliver Koletzki, Chilly Gonzales, Nicone, Console, Bonaparte, and more.
One of his biggest hits is "I Would" on the bar25 label (bar25 015).

Opening with the Vangelis inspired Present Voyage then weaving a path through gritty throbbing bass, exemplified by Arrival and on to minimized funk of Disco Diva and Need House, Sonic Intervention progresses naturally on through the swirling tension of Get Up and crescendos with the combination of floor-burner NZT and the old-school Electro stomping Electric Pandemic; featuring the vocals of Detroit Grand Pubas Paris Du Black Fu. When quizzed on his motivations behind his latest studio album, The Advent stated I wanted to do something quite personal for this first album and delve a little bit into the past to get inspiration from my influences to make an album that reflected all the musical genres I have been inspired by over the years electro, electronica, tech house - not just the techno tracks. <p>The label bosses The Advent and Industrialyzer team up with Hugo Paixao and they are releasing an excellent EP on Codeworks. Kicking off this EP is the title track ‘Mutant’ which creates a big chunky affair full of dark beats with smooth percussion on the foreground. A very nice and intense production with smooth string getting along. ‘Twisted’ follows, featuring stabbing and rolling deep basslines mixed up with nice and melodic riffs. Can be better than that? Three excellent producers getting along and they produce two techno anthems for Codeworks. Enjoy</p>
