Label boss Jason Peters returns with a new EP on his own imprint, Roam Recordings. In this latest offering titled In the Dark, JP collaborates with Alona of 40 Thieves fame, crafting a fun yet moody dark disco experience.

The EP kicks off with the title track 'In the Dark,' a dancefloor-ready anthem with arpeggiated basslines and energetic melodies underpinning Alona's sultry voice.

40 Thieves are back on Roam Recordings, teaming up with vocalist Alona to release their latest cosmic disco gem, "Shake You Off". Fans of the trio (Layne Fox, Corey Black, and Jay Williams) might recognise them from the dance-floor classic "Don't Turn it Off (I Think I Like It)", their eclectic album "The Sky is Yours", or their previous Roam hit "Take Me I'm Yours".

This new single delivers a dance-floor ready track featuring Alona's vocals layered over lush electronic melodies.

The release also features two standout remixes from Roam Recordings alumni Shubostar and label boss Jason Peters. Shubostar kicks things off, maintaining the warm, inviting vibe while introducing a dash of Italo disco flair. Jason Peters is a long time DJ (since the early 90s) and producer (releasing since 2001) and label boss of Roam Recordings. Over the last decade Jason Peters and his label have been at the forefront of the indie dance/dark disco movement. Ransom Note puts it best: “Just like Jason's own productions, which also appear on the label, the music is dark and hypnotic, cosmic and driving - sounds that'll take you down a wormhole. There are a lot of labels and artists treading similar terrain these days, but Jason was spearheading this new wave of exciting and unique dance music a long time ago.”

Through the years Jason has played countless raves, clubs, afterhours, parties, and the like. At the moment Jason has paused most travel to focus on his family which he adores. He does host Roam events in his hometown of San Francisco along with his partner Sharlese and occasionally takes a gig that doesn’t require him to travel too far. Maybe that will change. Life is funny that way.

Mix Series 132 - Jason Peters

Colombian artist Kabinett joins Roam Recordings with his brand new Dance Therapy EP. The release opens with “Power/Freedom,” an electrifying track that channels a post-punk energy through distorted guitars, raw vocals, and driving live bass—perfectly crafted for adventurous dance floors. Hardway Bros returns to Roam with a remix that strips “Power/Freedom” down, transforming it into a heavy mid-tempo chugger with undeniable groove. "40 Thieves and Alona… these are my homies. I love working with them. Alona is also on my EP “In the Dark” which came out in October 2024. And they have another EP coming out with us in the Spring of 2025. I’ve also done some work with them on their Album “The Sky is Yours” that came out in 2014 on Leng. They even named a track after me - “JP Soul” which was my alias back then. 40 Thieves are known for their cosmic disco and 80s sounds which is a great fit for Roam. For my remix I wanted to contrast that with a stripped down pounding version with warehouse vibes. There’s also another version on the EP from Shubostar which plays up the italo sounds. You can probably tell I love this EP and all the people on it. "

BIO
Jason Peters is a DJ/Producer and the label boss of Roam Recordings. Over the last decade he and his label’s output have been at the forefront of the indie dance/dark disco movement. While his music centers around 80s italo, 90s rave, and contemporary indie dance and dark disco, you will also hear rare disco, psychedelic techno, and early house.

Jason Peters is also a long time staple of the San Francisco dance music community where he plays regularly for some of SF’s more discerning clubs and promoters such as Sunset Sound System, Monarch, The Great Northern, and F8. On Jason Peters’ travels outside of the Bay Area he has played events such as SundaySunday, CRSSD festival, Block 9 at Glastonbury, Red Light Radio, Kater Blau, and the Alfresco festival.

San Francisco’s prolific JP Soul has amassed a quality-consistent catalog of compelling cuts, drawing equally upon his affinity for underground deep house, psychedelic disco, and analog acid. He’s been broadcasting these mainly through his acclaimed Roam Recordings imprint, a long-standing label whose first release (his own) came out 15 years ago. The tradition continues with JP’s latest, the three track Gone is the Time EP. It opens with the title track which is one of JP Soul’s more uptempo tracks. It features a pulsating bass pattern under a series of blasting synth effects and retro-style vocal phrases. The steady drum beats and dramatic chord rises aim this one squarely towards the boogie zone. “Work The Kinks” then captivates with its acidic bass line and ominous pad-scapes, never compromising the heavy helping of electro-funk that is the track’s foundation. The EP is rounded out by “Morning Shivers”, embracing JP’s love of lowered tempos and dreamy, melodic phrases. The interplay of the bass and the layers of keys creates a warm, full sound that will create dance floor delight when played in the early morning hours.

Gone Is The Mix

Whiskey Disco continues to explore boundaries; blurring lines between original and edit, disco and oddity. WD47 is helmed by Dutchman, Olivier Boogie, an artist known for strengths across the spectrum, in previous releases, we’ve seen his editing on display, No Goodbye is a fine balance between original synthesis and editing panache. Thoma Cher is a newcomer to the edit scene, but has been heavily involved in a disco and house renaissance occurring in Shanghai over the last few years. His club chops have honed an acute ear, we love what we’re hearing from him and can’t wait for more. 

The B-Side is everything a B-Side should be: weird. Label staple, Alkalino guides us along a cosmic journey of boogie-down grooves. Arps, baby. We love em. SF crew, JP Soul & Anthony Mansfield have been attracting serious attention of late between outings on Roam Recordings and sightings at the famous Burning Man camp, Disco Knights. To say they are ravelords is an understatement. Their pedigree is on full display in Warlord, equal parts Arp energy and HUGE (HUGE) lead, the right balance of fun and cheese.

Roam Recordings maestro steps up to the plate for Wonder Stories with a two track EP of druggy, cosmic sounds. De La Mode is a Middle Eastern fantasy piece full of phrygian scales and eastern sounds which gets an excellent stripped down remix by Maya Danon. 

On the b-side, Sun Kissed is exactly what it sounds, a sunny cosmic journey that grows and and grows until it peaks euphorically. Remixer Pino slows things down and amps up the drugginess that manages to creep along just perfectly.

Jason Peters is a DJ/Producer and the label boss of Roam Recordings. Over the last decade he and his label’s output have been at the forefront of the indie dance/dark disco movement. While his music centers around 80s italo, 90s rave, and contemporary indie dance and dark disco, you will also hear rare disco, psychedelic techno, and early house. 

Jason Peters is also a long time staple of the San Francisco dance music community where he plays regularly for some of SF’s more discerning clubs and promoters such as Sunset Sound System, Monarch, The Great Northern, and F8. On Jason Peters’ travels outside of the Bay Area he has played events such as SundaySunday, CRSSD festival, Block 9 at Glastonbury, Red Light Radio, Kater Blau, and the Alfresco festival.

Ransom Note puts it best: “Just like Jason's own productions, which also appear on the label, the music is dark and hypnotic, cosmic and driving - sounds that'll take you down a wormhole. There are a lot of labels and artists treading similar terrain these days, but Jason was spearheading this new wave of exciting and unique dance music a long time ago."
