Late at night, The Bearded Man walked with a very special European girl on a hill in a small forest in a small town in a small country. Not able to see their way (and before cell phone lights), they only had the moonlight and the stars to guide their path. Eventually they found a tree at the top of a hill, and they were able to look down on the village below. Everyone seemed to be sleeping except for them, and they both felt a combination of excitement, enchantment, fear, and a hint of cold. With the vast expanse of space staring back at them, they were able to feel firsthand how apparently alone we really are in the universe. When those feelings sunk in, the two remained in silent awe for at least 30 minutes. At the end of a profound period of understanding, they looked at each other knowingly — they were now aware that at least they had each other, and like always, that was and is the most important thing under the sky.
