Uwe Barschel (* 13.05.1944, † 11.10.1987) was a German politician of the CDU. He was Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein from 1982 to 1987 after serving as a state minister. After a scandal that arose during the 1987 state election campaign, which caused a sensation as the Barschel affair, led him to resign, he was found dead in the Beau-Rivage Hotel in Geneva on October 11, 1987. The circumstances of Barschel's death are still disputed today.

Barschel was good-looking, charismatic, eloquent and struck a pleasantly moderate tone for a CDU politician. And at 38 he was the youngest head of government of a German state at the time. Also Barschel received the Bambi media award in 1986.
