The Ambient Zone is a beautiful journey into ambient and electronica inspired by universal themes of calmness, purity, relaxation and enrichment where Weightless is coupled with some exclusive first releases and other blissfully ambient tracks from Just Music artists and alumni.

Created instinctively and intuitively by Marconi Union, Weightless has been claimed to have therapeutic properties in the way the track almost appears to have a heartbeat running through it which slows down very gently throughout the piece, encouraging a deep sense of relaxation in the body, It's use of specific rhythms, beep bass tones, frequencies and intervals induce an almost trance like state in the listener.

In April of 2008, we at Sub Pop Records had the good fortune to release the US version of Antidotes, the debut album by Oxford, UK quintet Foals. Antidotes was a special album. Two years on from that impressive introduction, a choice has been made–-rather than contort Antidotes’ lithesome guitars into ever more elaborate patterns, Total Life Forever is the sound of a band settling into and surveying the decay of old protocols. With this new album, Foals strip their sound back and turn themselves inside out searching for that invisible human thing. The result is an album as persuasive emotionally as Antidotes  was physically. Whereas that album constantly reinforced its own presence by filling the air with yelping and polyrhythm, tracks on Total Life Forever such as disarming opener “Blue Blood,” “2 Trees” and the astonishing “Black Gold” are happier to leave gaps for the listener to explore in mind’s ear and eye. Written primarily in the basement of their Oxford HQ (“The House of Supreme Mathematics”) and recorded in Gothenburg with former Clor man Luke Smith, Total Life Forever finds Foals singing rather than shouting, emotional as well as functional. The band’s soul-search reveals new antidotes found in infinite, internal spaces rather than carved violently upon the air–-Total Life Forever feels more the work of artists than artisans. It’s a triumph that they’ve managed to remain a band of progress and propulsion while investigating that vast, dark space lurking inside themselves-–that gap between ribs where “nature, or god or whatever you wanna call it, will come in.”

Anjunadeep’s latest signing is Swedish producer-composer Bård Ericson, aka boerd. He marks his arrival with the release of his breathtaking mini-LP, ‘Static’. Featuring the singles ‘Blind’, ‘Fragment II’ and ‘Void’, ‘Static’ is available now both digitally and on vinyl.

With influences ranging from Burial, Bibio and even Aphex Twin, the 26-year-old has developed a style that pushes the boundaries of atmospheric electronica with stunning attention to detail. Building his sound from samples he records himself, Ericson conjures a euphoric mix of subtle soundscapes that simultaneously breathe and play in awe.

More than an insular producer, Bård takes influence from his career playing double bass with the Swedish Royal Opera, Swedish Radio Symphony and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. His experience as a player in a significantly larger ensemble gives his music a unique vision and his arrangements a focus not easily realized by the typical bedroom producer.

His first work since signing with Anjunadeep, ‘Static’ is compiled of six meticulously crafted tracks. Amongst the release’s many highlights are the two vocal-led singles ‘Blind’ and ‘Void’. The former sees Bård debut his own vocals while on the latter the producer teams up with friend and fellow professional musician and producer, Ellen Arkbro.

Having the opportunity to remix one of Max’s tracks from his latest album was a real honour. The attention to detail and the warmth he brings to his productions are something that we’ve always aspired towards. We decided to work with Lovesong as we connected with the track’s reflective nature, the beautiful warmth and space the main prophet part brings to the track.  The hardest thing with the remix was to not overcomplicate or distract from this main synth. We really wanted to add live drums to keep it warm and organic, but then bring the electronic elements together for added depth and texture. We also worked on some simple warped piano and glock counter melodies to bridge the gap between the acoustic and electronic sounds.
