The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new video from Lower Tar. Formed in 2016, Lower Tar is the project of Los Angeles-based musician and visual artist, Ori Ofir. He has released albums on Ascetic House, Ecstatic Recordings, and Night Gaunt Recordings, and has collaborated with Silent Servant on a duo project called Sterile Hand. He also co-runs the party/label L.A.U.R.A. as a new avenue that focuses on bringing the Los Angeles electronic community together. As an Israeli-American of Arabic descent, Lower Tar is a project that explores the complex power structures that revolve around identity and what it means to be critical of a society while still maintaining a sense of self.

    "Rite It Off" comes off his latest release, “Abstract Parasite”, which also marks the project's debut for DKA. Recorded between 2018-2020, it combines 8 tracks of Ofir’s mix of hard hitting EBM, industrial, and spaced out electro. Inspired by the works of Mark Fisher, each track explores the systems that hold us back while trying to envision a way to rupture this omnipresent hold and cyclical complacency. 

   Directed by Elran Ofir, the video's lo-fi, left field style is the perfect accompaniment to Lower Tar's works.

L’Avenir is the dark synth project of veteran electronic musician and sound artist Jason Sloan. Known throughout the space and ambient music scenes for his contemplative electronic soundscape work for close to two decades; Sloan founded L’Avenir in 2011 to explore his long time love of dark synth and minimal wave music created purely from analog and vintage equipment.

While releasing over a dozen solo solo electronic ambient albums and E.P.’s under his own name, Sloan has played solo all over the US, Canada and Europe including the influential Live Constructions radio program at Columbia University, STEIM in Amsterdam and Philadelphia’s The Gatherings concert series, one of the country’s oldest continuing ambient and electronic music series.

Sloan is a Professor and Chair of the Interactive Arts department along with being the founder and director of the Sound Art program at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.
