Critical Music w/ Sam Binga, Redders + OM Unit - 2nd September 2015

"This mix is a selection of mostly my own work, including some unreleased sketches and ideas which might become future album tracks, some recent tracks from my new compilation Cosmology, music from forthcoming releases and a couple of older tracks that went relatively under the radar. I also included a beat-less version of "The Lake" from my last EP Torchlight vol.1 which I personally enjoy listening to more than the original.

It is difficult to speak too much about my own work because I believe we are all transceivers of information, and therefore my thoughts on the music won't be the same as yours so why preach about it? The best way I could describe the mix is to say it is threading a line from past to future via the present, and stylistically somewhat skewed to what you might consider "typical" of my stuff...perhaps.

Stylistically I hope to have brought the more etheric side of my work to the forefront for this selection, making it, I hope a good repeated listen. I think the best mixes take their time and fill a space around other tasks rather than demanding your entire concentration for an hour or more.

Another dancefloor essential from the NICE UP! crew - this time hooking up with iconic reggae label Maximum Sounds, who this year celebrate 20 years in the business. Having worked with pretty much every big name in dancehall and reggae, label owner and producer Frenchie entrusted NICE UP! head honcho Shep to delve into the vaults to rework some classics for this Jungle Soundclash EP.

First up, Belgium's Turntable Dubbers take on the mighty Bounty Killer and Lukie D, creating a monstrous drum & bass anthem that will slay any soundsystem. Then it's Portugal's Ricky Tuff's turn to ramp up a selection of vocalists including Mr Vegas, Burro Bantan, Carl Meeks & Fuzzy Jones on the Sound Exterminata riddim - total soundboy
destruction! Both tracks are tried and tested by names such as Serial Killaz, Benny Page, David Rodigan and more.

10 years ago Ed Solo and Skool Of Thought released Random Acts of Kindness and this is the first track from the 10 Year Deluxe Edition (released 27 Oct 2017) - played exclusively on Friction's BBC Radio 1 show. 

Huge props to Darrison who done such an incredible job of the vocals on this track – in many ways this is his record and we salute you mate. Also respect to JFB who also made a significant contribution to this track – big up! We play the music for the people all around…

This was my first ever drum'n'bass mix recorded in February 2007. Recently I was driving my car in the beginning of quarantine and this mix was a random choice of my player. I felt so inspired by selection and the story behind (my personal flashback) so I decided to share it with you. I did not change the original name of it as I think 'spirit' is the right definition of this mix. When I was playing it I didn't understand much about dnb scene and culture - even better, as this way I could only express what I feel about it through the music. JAXX - Train Recordings Radio Show (2021 Episode 1)

35 year old Hertfordshire based Drum & Bass DJ, Producer and Label owner of Train Recordings - Jack Rance aka “Jaxx” is known for his full impact dancefloor music and DJ sets. His journey started from early where he learned to play guitar & bass from the age of 12, growing up and around 15 he found himself listening to tape and CD packs from the likes of Mampi Swift, Bryan Gee, DJ Hype and the Full Cycle crew which lit the fire for his love of Drum & Bass. From the young age of 18, Jaxx started to go raving which further cemented his decision to devote his time and energy to this culture. Jaxx bought his first set of turntables at the age of 19 and began honing his skills and talents as a DJ, which has allowed to him play in various places throughout the UK & Europe. Shortly after, he moved onto music production and quickly developed his own unique style which has gained support throughout the scene to date from the likes of DJ Hype, Rene Lavice (BBC Radio 1), Logan D, Break and Bladerunner to name some. At the end of 2012 he started Train Recordings which to date has had over 60 releases and the tracks are gaining a lot of support across the scene from industry heavyweights. In 2016, Jaxx officially joined the Natty Dub Recordings roster after releasing the collaborative remix of Cabin Fever’s “Make Your Move” alongside Illphaze, and the monster track ‘Persepolis”. Since then he has delivered a whole bunch of singles and EP's for the label plus a string of colab releases.
In 2024 like always he is working hard in the studio on a regular basis and has a number of releases on labels such as Grid Recordings, Colab Recordings, Murky Digital & more.
