Jay Free is an independent rapper hailing from Nanaimo, BC Canada.  Performing locally Jay has already had the privilege to share the stage with such acts as the legendary 2 Live Crew, Swollen Members and Sweatshop Union.  Jay is influenced by an ever growing lists of artists but some of his biggest inspirations are Tupac, Eminem, Yelawolf, Madchild and Big L.  Jay has also always been a fan of heavy metal music and played in local metal bands Solitary Confinement and Pentacaust.  Jay now brings the same aggression and passion he did for heavy metal to the genre of rap, a genre he's loved for just as long.  "I got into Tupac and Eminem and all that right around the same time I started listening to Slayer and Iron Maiden, so for me the two never contradicted each other, this is just who I am" Jay says.  "I was always freestyling at parties and stuff as a kid, I just never concentrated on it because I thought that the rock side of things was were my heart was really at back then, rapping was more just fun for me" Jay goes on to explain.  But things certainly aren't all fun and games when it comes to rapping for Jay these days.  
"A year ago I was drinking way too much, acting like an idiot just thinking it was cool to tell people I was a rapper and then get drunk all day.  I wasn't getting anything accomplished the way I wanted to be.  You clean up your lifestyle and you look at yourself and you're like... shit what the hell am I doing here, if I don't make some moves now who's gonna make em?"
Jay is currently hard at work writing and recording the material that while comprise his first full length mixtape.
