A woman sits by an Isolette, her eyes on the tiny newborn boy inside. He sleeps day and night, connected to cables, tubes and life saving machines. With sterilized hands, she reaches into the plastic box and strokes his back gently, praying her grandson will make it.

Across the Ocean, the woman's cousin is also asleep, hooked up to tubes, wires and machines. She's slept like this since years. A tragic childhood, a life of substances to numb her pain. She can't move, eat or speak. The woman prays her cousin may finally go in peace.

The beautiful man the woman cares about is gone. he ran away to keep his childhood pain locked inside. She longs for his gentle touch.

Streets full of sleep-walkers. Eyes to their screens, they don't see her coming. “Wake up!” she says to someone, to avoid a crash. A driver nearly hits her with their shiny black SUV as they drive by, texting.

Some are sleeping, waiting to arrive. Some are sleeping and waiting to leave. Some have arrived, but are busy sleeping. And her heart goes out to them all.
