This is my reinterpretation/remix of the song X by the awesome English band Smilex. The initial plan was to produce something industrial/cyberpunk, but I was seduced by the idea of making a rockabilly version of X, with hints of punk rock.

Huge thanks to Lee (lead singer), who kindly offered me the invitation to do a remix of the song -- he's probably regretting it by now, but it's too late, man. 😄

Boasting an ear splitting career spanning over a decade, Smilex are the band who have done it all. Several releases on Quickfix Recordings (who discovered Youthmovies) and spots on various compilations & singles clubs, including a split ep with The Young Knives & a collaboration with MC Lars, have made Smilex a band renowned within their native Oxford. Explosive live shows – betraying a tendency for reckless self-endangerment coupled with a drive to put the audience's experience above all else – have led local music bible Nightshift to dub Smilex “Oxford's one band Riot”. Infamous live antics have caught the eyes and ears of musical types across the country, earning them the title of Playmusic's “best unsigned live act of 2010”, whilst securing slots playing beneath (and raising the bar for) the likes of The Damned, The Datsuns, and The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster.

The musical backing is carefully set-up, the vocalist sings slowly and carefully and makes each note count. Yes, nice stuff. Again, adding the lyrics via edit/descriptive might be good too. Like the refrain also, with just that slight echo at its end. I'm guessing that someone spent many hours glueing this all togethe

Remedy

“WORTH IT” is about one of those situations where you give your all to someone who, in the end, just wasn’t worth it. It’s emotional but honest — smooth melodies with a raw message underneath. I wrote and structured the whole track myself, keeping it melodic and floaty while still hitting that real, reflective tone.

Jay Olivine is Ziggy Stardust’s fourth favourite lyricist in Northeast Brisbane. 

He is a hitless wonder who scratches out demos in a dark booth beneath his kitchen. 

Sometimes he adds distortion to cover the snores of his dog. Sometimes he gets away with an acoustic number. 

His dream (not his dog’s dream) would be to license his lyrics to someone who would take them somewhere beautiful. He keeps dreaming.
