Backbone Of Truth

Recorded live at Ecstatic Church on a rainy Xmas day near the white sand beach of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.

Though it was abnormally rainy and cold this Xmas day, the dance community still came out in full force to enjoy a deep dance with thier family and friends. We found ourselves under the roof at a beach club overlooking the beautiful white sand shores of Playa Del Carmen. The rain washing our cares away, the ocean taking our troubles out to sea.

Since it was Xmas, there was a certain famiy vibe in the air, with generous hugs all throughout, huge smiles the entire time, with little children running around and laughing about. The dance concluded with a laughter yoga cuddle puddle. All guided by the amazing Agni on facilitation, and my tunes guiding the journey.

I hope you enjoy. This set is a big wave that peaks up high with bouncy tones and then splashes down into some trappy, bassy Xmas carols, sending us off into a state of smiles and laughter.

Come, Weavers of story, art and song
let us gather together, for the time has come
to weave a new vision for those yet to come
for we are the ancestors of our great grand daughters and sons.

Bring your voice, your hands, your heart, your drum
whatever it is that you make your art from

for if we don’t, we may well choke
on all the words we never spoke
On all the books we never wrote
and the fires within our hearts we let turn to smoke..

For a hope, a dream
channelled through a brush stroke, song or a seam
can be the spark that lights the dark we find ourselves in
Art is and has always been a way for spirit to be seen.

We need your fire so that the Phoenix of mankind can rise
above the distractions, the hatred and the lies

We each bring our own threads
to the web
and we all play our part
do we light a spark, or stay in the dark?

So, come
way showers
weavers of spirit in form
let us sit around this fire together once more

Jaya Lakshmi began leading kirtan and writing devotional songs on the guitar, harmonium and piano in the early 1990′s shortly after receiving harinam initiation from Srila Govinda Maharaj, a spiritual teacher of bhakti (devotion) from West Bengal, India. 
As a singer/songwriter she is known for her authentic and deep devotional spirit as well as playing an important part in establishing kirtan and mantra music in the west.  Her angelic voice and loving presence opens the heart in a way that brings the listener into a state of harmony and bliss. Since 1997 she has created 19 albums, all in the mantra/chant/new age genre. 
Jaya Lakshmi tours regularly in the USA (mostly western region) and internationally and has a global following.
A dedicated yogi, she has regularly practiced hatha-based since 1996, integrating kundalini yoga since 2010 and certified through Sattva Yoga Academy in Rishikesh. She leads Yoga, Mantra and Vocal Empowerment Retreats annually around the world.
