 Rhythm Section International proudly presents it’s 8th offering from local boys Chaos in the CBD. Born in New Zealand, but based in Peckham for the last few years (literally just around the corner from Henry Wu and Bradley Zero), these brothers have made a real mark on the scene here in London town and with their latest set of productions are set to take this message further afield. 
Having already released internationally on labels such as ClekClekBoom (Paris), Hot Haus (London) and Amadeus (Montreal), the duo’s approach to production has matured immeasurably in the last year, as is evident in the restrained potency and poetic subtlety on the 4 tracks across this accomplished EP, Midnight in Peckham. 
Taking it’s title from the locale the boys have come to know as home, the record channels a delicate late night energy - equally indebted to the hypnotic incantations of Ron Trent as it is to the hazy suburban atmospheres of Burial. These 4 classic cuts pay homage to deep house in it’s truest sense - at once sublime, melancholy and meditative . Chaos in the CBD have clearly taken their cue from the mid-west masters of the genre but have not been afraid to let their own influences and environ creep in, and in doing so have created something that is unmistakablely London and infact, timeless.

The Modified Man duo announced their arrival last year with a remix for legendary Fela Kuti collaborator Dele Sosimi. Eschewing sampling elements of the original, for reinterpreting passages from scratch with their extensive synth collection and beloved analogue gear, surrounding it in a deep, broken-soul sound.

Though Modified Man is predominantly a synth and keyboards project, the duo are extensive multi-instrumentalists.

Dave Koor is a prolific keys player as part of The Expansions, and in the live bands of Connie Constance, Andrew Ashong and The Gene Dudley Group with fellow label founder Jonny Drop. 

Adam Scrimshire cut his teeth with solo project Scrimshire (a Gilles Peterson, Don Letts and Huey Morgan favourite) as well as running the Wah Wah 45s record label, home to Dele Sosimi, The Milk, Resonators and Paper Tiger. Both love playing soul records in public and trying to count to free jazz.

Who better to kick off the inaugural release of SOBO [Sounds Of Beaubien Ouest] than Patrick Holland, best known as Project Pablo. Affiliated with the Canadian Riviera's 1080p troupe, as well as Seb Wildblood's Church and Lone's Magicwire – Holland now adds Beaubien Dream as the fourth instalment to his 12" series. The Beaubien connection comes from Montreal's Rue Beaubien, of which Holland is a resident. SOBO is headed up by fellow longstanding citizens of the Beaubien Ouest hood, Arbutus Records and their extended family – of which Holland is an instrumental part.

An initial teaser of the EP's opening "Closer" was aired publicly during Holland's BR London set back in October, as well as his NTS appearance with Lone and Gabriola earlier this year. Now, after a patient seven-month wait, we can finally wrap our mitts around it in its entirety. Alongside its two subsequent components, the track acts as a homage to Holland's home. With its distinctive Dx7 melodies, jingly percussion provided by bells (of the cow variety amongst others) and an insatiable groove growing lazily throughout – "Closer" is instantaneous happiness.

'Set 3 from Modified Man brings another diverse bunch of tracks together with bubbling basslines, sizzling, expansive synth sounds and heavy, broken and percussive beats. 

Blame’s On You Bruv, combines their signature synth bounce with broken beats via some classic UK two-step vibes, and is the first time we’ve heard a (human) voice on their records. 

Glass Army is way more direct, bringing grouchy beats and bass up to a euphoric disco/house jam before delivering an emotional final punch. 

Hear Me Calling is 808 gospel music, still nodding at the duo’s broken beat influences. Big, bass heavy, uplifting dance music. 

The rest of the EP continues to deliver the bizarre twists and turns, and sense of humour we’ve come to expect from the South London pair. Bumpy, atmospheric, spacious and jazz influenced in equal measures.

Artwork once again comes from a unique piece of plasticine art created by Tim Easley. This piece itself has been gaining love and attention with massive design authorities and tech sites from Creative Review to Engadget! '

We feature ‘Hope Circuitry’, a twin movement opening track that starts the EP off with a dreamy introduction of gospel vocals and a soulful piano. Loure then flips the switch on the track and roots it firmly on thedancefloor with a big funk bassline and re-chopped samples of itself.
