Hungry Music has since five years carved out its own magnificent niche in the electronic music world, and it is now returning with its second remarkable summer release. It is coming from N'to and features a fresh, arpeggiated and hypnotic beast entitled "Alter Ego".

Last February 2020 before we were all sent into confinement due to this Covid-19 pandemic my way of communicating with you has been making bootlegs and special edits from tracks or soundtracks that influenced me in a way. 

Late in the 20th Century, Ridley Scott crafted a film that would become a landmark of science fiction.  Blade Runner is, at it's heart, a story about what it means to be human in the future based in huge corporations with controlled and impoverished masses.  Does this sound familiar to you???
This is my tribute to the final and iconic track of this masterpiece done by the master Vangelis.

Vangelis - End Titles (Simply City Rework)

Galestian debuts on Manual Music after his successful releases on Perfecto, Perspectives and Click Records to name a few. L'Amour is a sensual yet intense track that borders between the melodic, progressive and deep house genres. Next to the beautiful original it comes in remix versions by a couple of infamous Dutch producers: Alex O'Rion and Formel.

Alex O'Rion can't do wrong at the moment with one release after another hitting the charts and labels lining up to work with him. He adds his trademark dosage of groove and warmth, giving Galestian's original a lovely original interpretation.

The Formel guys are known for their releases on labels such as Last Night On Earth, Sincopat and Einmusika amongst others. They provide a more rough and peak time melodic approach which will make this release appealing to an even wider audience.

Because the @solselectas reworks had been written for use in a specific track order with some of @satorimusica’s original tracks played in between, he and @djsabo decided to do an album with those tracks taken from the set, and make them available for those not lucky enough to hear it performed live.

Also a great opportunity for DJ’s to get updated versions of their favourite Sol Selectas cuts, the release features reworks of @namito, Matanza, Amine K, El Buho, Derun, and Sabo himself.

trndmsk: What inspired you to make this version of “Stone Flower”?
 
Satori: I was looking for tracks to incorporate into my live set for a 10 hour show I was doing, and I came across Stone Flower during that process. I really liked the original and the vocal it used, as I was already very familiar with the original vocal by Ahmad Zahir because of my Afghan friends. I was already using that vocal in my live set so i started blending my music with this track and it quickly came alive. Originally it was just a bit of a fun idea I had during a jam session, but it worked so well that I decided to do a full remix version. I’m really happy and proud of the way the final version turned out.

How did you approach the original track?
 
As mentioned in the last question, it was originally just a fun idea that I messed around with during a live jam, as I already had a vocal sample from the same Ahmad Zahir track. Adding parts from Namito’s version sounded so good that I decided to do a proper remix version combining my own sounds with some of his parts.

Where and how did you produce it?

I just started playing it in my live performances and based on the crowd response, I would tweak a little bit of the track after every show. Once I discovered the perfect flow then the remix really came alive. A video of me playing this track during Day Zero in Massada went kind of viral, and after that the daughter of Ahmad Zahir reached out to me to say that she loved it and was so happy to hear her father’s music in this way. She asked if I wanted to do something with this track, and that also played a part in how this release came about, as it's a real honor to be able to have the Elvis Presley of the middle east featured on this track.

How did you get in contact with the record label? Who asked you for your version?

I've been friends with Sabo (owner Sol Selectas) for many years and couple years ago I did a remix for Unders' track “Syria” that came out on the label. I was getting ready to do a 10 hour live show that I mentioned earlier, and was looking for some more material to jam with during my set. Sabo was kind enough to send me the complete discography of Sol Selectas to play around with, and after this I got inspired by so many gems that I decided to make an album based around my reworks.

Returning to their April 2020 debut release, Meanwhile head honchos GMJ and Matter rediscover "Lost on Origin" through a trio of new remixes courtesy of Italian and UK artists.

Italian born but firmly ensconced in adopted Argentinean homeland, Andrea Cassino is an iconic figure in the underground dance movement with a glowing career that has seen over a century of credits in solo and collaborative guise for Proton Music, Lowbit and Balkan Connection. Making his Meanwhile debut, Andrea Cassino takes "Microclimate" on a typically impressive journey of driving mesmeric bass groove and syncopated percussion with its roots in the Australian duo's work. Making intelligent use of original components, melodies hypnotise and new production material from the Cassino arsenal drifts across proceedings and into an unencumbered breakdown. Dropping back into the extended groove in the second half after a 'hands in the air' white-noise riser, the Italian has created another club floor-filler.

Continued critical acclaim has seen Imran Khan a consistently impressive artist over the past eighteen months. A rapidly growing portfolio has seen a host of original and remix material signed to the likes of Particles, Stellar Fountain and Proton Music, supported by Dmitry Molosh and Nick Muir among others. Another Meanwhile debutant, the first of two remixes sees Imran Khan's aptly titled "Sunset Mix" deliver a cone-melting bass groove that is the perfect stripped back version of the one created by GMJ and Matter in "Lost on Origin". A heavy beat and whip-cracking percussion add further weight as the multi-layered pads and rich melodic phrasing of the original seeps into Khan's rework. The second "4am Mix" provides a more uptempo vibe with its staccato bassline and head-shaking groove. Once again, the textured pads of the original arrive in vast swathes across the musical landscape as additional production via subtle melodic touches and stereo-panned effects invigorates "Lost on Origin".

Still as hypnotic as it is powerful, "Lost on Origin" continues to find purpose through standout remixes from Andrea Cassino and Imran Khan.
