'O Rio' is the first release of my EP 'Wanderlust I: Brazil'. In this new series I travel (figuratively) to other worlds, and with the inspiration from this journey I create a world of my own through music.

This time I ‘traveled’ to Brazil, immersing myself in its rich (music) culture and nature (of course, as far as I can from a distance). I voyaged from bossa nova to baile funk, sailed on the Amazon river through rich ecosystems, and enjoyed Brazil’s vibrant beach culture.

This series emerged out of a desire to explore other worlds without physically going there. Don’t get me wrong, I would love to go to other worlds, such as Brazil. Allow me to explain: from a pragmatic perspective travelling is just very expensive, at least for me. Then, from a creative perspective, creating a 'themed' project helps to provide direction and purpose for me and you, but perhaps even more importantly, it challenges me as an artist to push my creative boundaries. Finally, from a more ethical point of view traveling (especially by plane) is almost always unsustainable in many ways. Travel often promotes climate change, leads to environmental degradation, and can create patterns of inequality in the country of destination. I’m not saying we should not travel anymore, but I find it important to rethink our travel patterns, including our motives to travel. I also know that physically travelling to a world is always more immersive and offers a richer experience. This is not an attempt to create music that is a pure reflection of that world (in this case Brazil). Rather, it is a worthwhile experiment in which I integrate elements of that world that speak to me the most and which I subsequently translate into music that moves me in some way, and in doing so I hope to move (something in) you as well.

I am Jay Latune, an artist, music producer, and DJ from the city of Amsterdam. My sound is versatile, experimental, and finds its roots in house, disco, and latin music. Above all, I have a strong desire to push creative, intellectual and emotional boundaries through the art of music, and in doing so, challenge the beliefs of myself and society.

With over 12 years of experience in the music industry, I had the opportunity to release with respected labels such as Potion Records, OVRDOSE Records, and Top Right Records, and perform at well-known venues including Paradiso, Hemkade 48, and Colorado Charlie. 

I am currently exploring ways to bridge the gap between my musical and academic background and bring these worlds together in order to address important societal issues, and in particular those that strongly relate to the music industry.
