Have you ever wondered what it would be like to just float, motionlessly, through the endless cosmos? Our lives could easily become hectic and at any moment, we could feel burnt out and lose motivation to continue. With the finals approaching, preparing to go out into the nation for mission works, preparing to transfer into a university, etc. my life has been feeling way too crazy and to be honest with you, I feel very overwhelmed. In fact, it has gotten so bad that I actually took a day off to just meditate alone in silence. I turned off my phone, turned off my light, and just sat on my chair - losing myself in my own mind. I pictured myself gently, weightlessly, floating across the universe. Seeing the pretty colors, seeing the countless stars, admiring different astronomical debris, it was very... peaceful. I just wished I had my special companion next to me, but unfortunately, she's not with me at the moment.

The point is this. I think it's a beautiful thing to acknowledge our limits and spend, at least 5 minutes, in absolute silence in our own mind. Like what Calvin said to Hobbes, looking up at night sky, decorated with countless stars, "If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I'll bet they'd live a lot differently [...] When you look into infinity, you realize that there are more important things than what people do all day." 

Thank you, Calvin. Thank you for that valuable reminder and wisdom.

This song is about growing up. It's about wanting to run away to somewhere, anywhere, nowhere. It's about a girl who fought with her mom on mother's day, and in her frustration, anger, and grief, wrote a song about it in her closet at 3am a year ago. 

It is for the girl I used to be and still am. The girl who hated the way she looked in this video so much that she only ate protein bars for a good year. The girl who will run on the treadmill for hours trying to run off weight, physically and metaphorically. The girl who still wonders if she'll ever be pretty enough because years of hate are hard to undo.  

But most importantly, it is for you, whoever and wherever you are. And I am sending it to you with all my love from a broken but healing heart.

If we had only four letters to describe “Lost Reflections”, the new EP by Mr.Käfer, we would choose J-A-Z-Z. This could easily mislead to the presumption that the “Lost Reflections” EP is a bunch of Lo-Fi beats with a random Bill Evans loop on top of it, glued together by vinyl crackles sampled from YouTube. Something that you don't necessarily need in your playlist in 2019. As a matter of fact the “Lost Reflections” EP is not such a thing, even though it has beatmaker and jazz written all over it. The beatmaker here – Mr. Käfer – loves jazz. 
He discovered Mingus, Coltrane and Miles through his love for Pete Rock, Lord Finesse and The Pharcyde. If you listen to his debut album “Travelin” on Postpartum or put on one of his tracks for Chillhop or Hip Dozer you know the deal.

For his new EP the producer from Salzburg, Austria has teamed up with Californian saxophonist Gavin Lord. Together they have recorded 9 dreamy and slightly melancholic pieces of contemporary beatdriven jazz music. Perfect for the cold season.

Here is Gavin's protocol how the EP came about:
„Lost Reflections is a hodge podge of rainy-day jams and musings. It’s the product of a Californian saxophonist and an Austrian beat maker trying to figure out how to make music together one spring in Salzburg. We met by chance in a burger shop, and thought it would be cool to jam. To be honest, at first we didn’t really know what we were doing; I (Gavin) had only played with jazz combos and swing bands. Karim was a beat maker and rapper. It was a bit of a melancholic time for both of us, and we ended up creating an atmosphere that was sometimes smooth and dark, sometimes twisted and barely restrained. At any rate, we preferred to keep it simple. We would start with a rough idea of the mood we wanted to convey, whether that was a feeling or a sample or a riff, and then we would just jam on it until it felt right. Jamming and improvising with a saxophone and a midi-controller was new for both of us, but very cool and natural. After I moved away, we almost forgot about the tracks and they just sat around for a while. We sometimes talked about them, but between us we didn’t have enough time for the project. Releasing the tracks now is a bit of a nostalgic trip, remembering the Salzburg days and the crew of friends who gave their encouragement and support. Although there are things that we would now change, we put too much love into these tracks to sit on them forever.”
