A musical mediation on our global social and political challenges in climate, race, sexual identity. The mix centers around the stunning Mt. Gordon Remix my friends from Me Succeeds did for me. This inspired me to dive deep into my Healing Music and Illbient archives. And so I made a couple of edits and mixes of my favorite cuts. As I was putting the mix together I let myself go and wandered further into Wave and Noise Rock territories via a Detroit detour. Had to end the mix with Sonic Youth for obvious, fan-boy reasons.

The next release in the Phonica Special Edition series comes from Ukrainian duo Asyncronous who first came to our attention after hearing their critically acclaimed debut on Berlin label Slow Life, ‘The Art of Fighting In A Dream’. A Phonica favourite, it provided the soundtrack to many days in the shop throughout the year, culminating in its inclusion in our top ten Best Singles of 2019! 

The Phonica Special Edition series is focused on one-of projects, special remixes or collaborations, highlighting music that is slightly left of the dance floor and pairing it with unique artwork. 

The result on this EP is a hazy cosmic trip through their universe of synth swells, deep sub-bass and meticulous percussion. The journey begins on our featured track: ”Padma Kirtanam”, with a constant drone providing the backbone to a building tension scattered with drums.

Jazz-O-Tech and @monument-podcast introduce a refreshing live streaming from the Berlin-based artists Mattia Prete, Daniel Calvi, and Leonie Freudenberger.

The trio debuted through a live performance where electronic drums, synths, guitar, and saxophone will meet together to create a new genre that draws on the rich heritage of two of the most visionary and experimental genres in music: jazz and techno.

The Berlin/Milan based label takes inspiration from the freeform creative nature of those two musical worlds and manifests it by putting together jazz musicians with techno producers. Each artist then shares, learns, and creates with a new set of influences and reference points. The thrilling result is genre-blurring new music as well as exciting new live shows that head in bold yet playful new directions.
