Charles 'Don' Alias (December 25, 1939 in New York City – March 29, 2006 in New York City) was an American jazz percussionist.

Alias was best known for playing congas and other hand drums. He was, however, a capable drum kit performer: for example, Alias played drums on the song "Miles Runs the Voodoo Down" from trumpeter Miles Davis's album Bitches Brew (1969) when neither Lenny White nor Jack DeJohnette were able to play the marching band-inspired rhythm requested by Davis.

Alias performed on hundreds of recordings, and was perhaps best known for his associations with Miles Davis and Jaco Pastorius , though he also performed or recorded with the group Weather Report, singer Joni Mitchell, pianist Herbie Hancock, the Brecker Brothers, Pat Metheny, Nina Simone and many others. 

Alias was born in New York City and arrived in Boston in the early 1960s intending to study medicine but, after playing congas in a number of local bands, made an abrupt career switch.

Heh this is my all time favourite jazz number Wayne Shorter's 'Infant Eyes', it's such a beautiful tune I can't describe it in words:) I first heard it on Wayne Shorter's 1965 Album 'Speak No Evil' -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speak_No_Evil ,well worth a listen, uh.. I think most of it is on utube. I start my version with a bit of solo piano, which I hate doing cos' I'm not that good - and nowhere to hide. Then it's into a quartet for the rest of it, really hope you like this one. Trombone solo is weak as it's a one take. Drums are brushes loop. Bass is a sampled one from Garritan Aria, Keys are a midi sound off Mixcraft, as is the trombone sound which I'm very pleased with. Sorry it ends a little abruptly, I'll try and fix that some stage. TEEN TOWN - JACO PASTORIUS

This was an impromptu recording of Wayne Shorter's "Footprints" from February 2013.  It was recorded in drummer Terry Vinyard's recording studio using Logic Pro software. Terry did the recording setup, recorded and edited tracks where needed, and the did the final mix, and did a right fine job too. Mark Tucker, Phil Buonpastore and Terry Vinyard, also known as the "The Mark Tucker Trio," play in the Atlanta area, and long-time friend and musical associate Bruce Burney played lead and solo guitar on the tune.
