The latest EP arriving via renowned Munich/Cologne-based label, Jazz & Milk, finds two kindred spirits teaming up for the first time; multi-instrumentalist and producer, Àbáse, and Australian Nu-Soul drummer and studio wunderkind, Ziggy Zeitgeist (who we recently covered on the site with his smash Kreuzberg Kix). Through their mutual love for experimental live instrumentation and modern club music, they have formed Àbáse X Zeitgeist, with Body Mind Spirit EP serving as their official calling card.
	Packed in this sprawling, densely layered EP is a dizzying array of various styles, genres, and musical ideas. Much of the EP derived from improvisatory sessions between Àbáse and Ziggy in Ziggy’s Berlin studio. The two of them spent hours going back and forth, with Àbáse laying down improvised keys and synth work over Ziggy’s drum patterns, who would then mix them to delightfully quirky and eclectic results. The result is something that feels palpably organic and loose, yet grounded in the duo’s affinity for vibey, hard-hitting dance-music grooves. Case-in-point is the centerpiece of the EP, the title track, “Body Mind Spirit”. Coupled with South African-born, Berlin-based artist and singer, Dumama––who brings a stunning traditional South-African vocal performance to the arrangement––the track is a vibrant, hypnotic, eclectically playful cut of world-music-leaning Deep House. 
	On this track, and across the entire EP, the duo displays a formidable knack for taking disparate inspirations and infusing them with their own unique sense of groove-building. There is a deep sense of collaboration and mutual respect for each artist’s singular creative vision that courses throughout the entire project, indicating an exciting, creatively fruitful musical partnership that is only just getting started.

Brazilian jazz sensation channel the futuristic funk of Herbie Hancock on new "Sábado" single, ahead of forthcoming 'Agôra' album for Jazz & Milk. 

We've been fans since the group's 2020 'Angela' album so it's a pleasure to debut their new single. "Sábado", with its funk-infused and electrified future jazz style, pays tribute to the bustling city of São Paulo, where the trio formed. The song features vocalist Zé Leônidas, known for his fiery delivery, riding a groove reminiscent of Airto Moreira, complemented by traditional Brazilian instruments such as cuicas, tamborim, agogo and shakers.

“"Sábado" reflects well the spontaneity that permeated the entire recording of the album. When we got to the studio, we had no idea what we were going to record. We started playing a groove, kind of inspired by Gilberto Gil's 80s albums, and our drummer João started singing this funny song 'Sábado Barrigudão' (Big Belly Saturday) alongside the bass groove and that was that”.

Jazz & Milk turns TEN! To celebrate a decade full of music the Munich based label offers a limited vinyl 12" edition which comes in a hand-drawn and numbered sleeve - 300 copies available only! Since 2005 Jazz & Milk offers an experimental playground for international artists. On Ten Years of Jazz & Milk four exclusive tracks are brought to you by the likes of Sam Irl, Mieux, Todd Simon & The Angel City All Star Brass Band and label founder Dusty.

On the A-side label artist Sam Irl brings Dub culture onto electronic dance floors. Dreams is a forward driven introspective dub track built around a heavy steppas-influenced rhythm and deep bassline. Expect his full-length solo debut album to released later this year on Jazz & Milk!

Mieux is a young upcoming duo from Vienna known from their Boiler Room live performance or their debut EP on Up My Alley! With Technotrap they contribute a playful and dreamy uptempo tune that cleverly balances a straight-forward driven beat with harmonic and repetitive melodic figures.

Label head Dusty joins the EP with a slow-house MPC jam called Heavy Lights. After a dreamy intro the track soon fades into a hypnotic direction based on percussive vibes, big bottom samples and heavy hitting snares.

Todd Simon's arrangement, blending multiple versions of a classic for his 21-piece ensemble featuring himself on Flügelhorn and Alan Lightner on Steel Drums. Recorded live to tape in an 80 year-old studio located in the heart of Hollywood.

2020 sees Jazz & Milk celebrating its 15th anniversary! Since 2005 the label, founded by Dusty, offers an experimental playground for international artists that share a passion for organic and soulful dance music. Many legendary club nights and over 30 releases later, Jazz & Milk has become a household name amongst the eclectic music imprints. The focus has always been to transcend genres, including a broad spectrum of styles ranging from jazz, soul, brazil, afrobeat to house, broken beat and electronic music.

Jazz & Milk continuously provides a global platform for new international talents alongside established artists, friends and worldwide family. For this very special occasion, the label presents six exclusive tracks (plus three digital bonus versions) by the likes of Steve Spacek, Àbáse, Sam Irl, Feater, Bongani GiveThanks and Moe Fabrik - the club focused collaborative moniker of Wayne Snow, Ziggy Zeitgeist and StyleBoi 92.

With this compilation project, Jazz & Milk is not only celebrating an illustrious 15 years of operation. The label also wants to take the opportunity to highlight the importance of ‘community’, at a time when racism, greed, injustice and a deadly pandemic are jeopardizing our ability to harmoniously exist with one another. Music has enormous individual and social health benefits, the potential to empower whole communities and build cultural bridges. Thus, Dusty’s vision was to invite artists coming from completely different corners of the world - from South Africa to Europe and Australia. Each one of these featured producers is representing their local music culture and individual influences, as well as sharing their current emotions during the lockdown, through music.

There’s no need to introduce the legendary Steve Spacek. With his epic projects ranging from Spacek to Afrika Hitech and Space Invadas, this man continuously redefines the sound of modern music with his futuristic approach. While most producers are in need of a studio environment full of equipment to create music, Steve Spacek is currently shaping the sound of tomorrow entirely on an iOS based mobile phone. „Do U Want My Lov“ is a progressive and bass heavy, yet very soulful track thanks to Steve’s highly distinctive vocals.

We’d like to thank each and everyone for supporting Jazz & Milk and vinyl music culture throughout the years! Furthermore we’d like to once more remind you how important it is to get together and cultivate inclusive communities in these turbulent times. While the term “social distancing” is still widely used at the moment, it may be sending the wrong message and contributing to social isolation. More than ever before in our history, we have ways to remain social, while maintaining „physical distance“. Staying in touch with people feeds the human connection we all need to thrive daily! Let’s appreciate our differences and celebrate our similarities. Let’s help each other to stay healthy and sane in these crazy times! And what tool could be better for all of this than music.
