Maybe sometimes a bit of a wild mix of styles but that's part of me. Hello! Hellooo! Heeello! It's Christmas! Resoul live in the Mix!

After last years „20+years in jazznotjazz“ label anniversary release with 14 new & unreleased titles we continue with a series of remixes to this release in the next month.

With „A Chance for Peace“ the one and only cover-version (Lonnie Liston Smith) on the anniversary release, recorded by Mop Mop with vocals by Sara Sayed (from Rime), this release pays tribute and respect to the roots and completes the picture of INFRACom!...and by the way it comes with a message we want to underline - even so the original is back from 1975, it seems to be highly current these days again. ...give peace a chance and see what happens....!!!!

We are very happy and proud that the first remix is delivered by none less than DJ Smash who closes the circle somehow, as the term „jazznotjazz“, which is used for the anniversary release is originally from DJ Smash (Hunter) from NY who released a 12“ on his own labels New Breed and Eightball in the beginning of the nineties under this moniker.
This 12“ (Flip & Trip), a hybrid of jazz and heavy electronic broken beats influenced Jan & Namé to that extend that it became the key vinyl by the time in their dj sets. Eventually they overtook the name and defined it as the motto for their future work.

The remix itself takes the tune to the dancefloor with a positive 80ties tribute vibe of funk and disco on a 4 to floor beat.

I finally found the time to go through my record collection. I found a lot of stuff I bought in the 90s, which brought back many great memories. Exciting genres such as trip hop and drum & bass emerged, hip hop exploded, and house conquered the dance floors. Time for a new mix for your listening pleasure. For 30 years, the six-member DJ and production collective, Jazzanova, has been highly influential, artfully bridging the worlds of jazz, soul, and world into a fusion of modern sounds that have delighted ears and feet through the years. 

My first introduction was listening to “Coffee Talk,” a downtempo tune whose debut on Los Angeles radio station KCRW was the start of a music trajectory that would see the group through many top-notch remixes, several studio albums, a number of special music projects, and, now, coming full circle with a live version of its 2001 debut, “In Between.” “In Between Revisited” finds Jazzanova in a live session, with an intimate audience, surfacing ack to the tunes from its 2001 album, but giving it an updated flair. 

To celebrate “IN Between Revisited,” I did an early July all-vinyl set at Jan’s Vinyl Bar in San Luis Obispo, where the owners are fans too and where I spin about 1-2 times monthly. It was an honor to do so, and so great to pull out vinyl from my radio show days, when the music was fresh. It stands up very well today.

With that, I hope you enjoy the mix that I have for you: two hours of Jazzanova, along with friends, from vocalists to producers remixing Jazzanova. There was only so much that two hours could fit in, but here it is.

Who would like to hear that in 2025? A mix of Sade, Barry White, the Beatles, Tears for Fears, Mark Morrison, Marvin Gaye, EPMD, Erykah Badu, Larry Heard, the Eagles, Ashford and Simpson, Roy Ayers, Empire of the Sun, Grace Jones and, to finish, BJ Thomas as a tribute to the great song selection in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’! Thanks to the work of producers such as Tall Black Guy, Stefan Ringer, Luxxury and others, it could work. Enjoy listening, everyone!

Montreal's @JacquesGreene is releasing a deluxe edition of his 2019 'Dawn Chorus' LP via @LuckyMe this month.

'Dawn Chorus', Greene's long-awaited second album, was a well-worth-the-wait exploration into the weird and wonderful emotions and experiences that only occur in those afterglow hours post-rave and pre sleeping in your own bed inevitably at some ridiculous time in the afternoon. Or is that just us?

Anyway, it was a wonderful release in its original form (and well received, too) with Greene confident in his new space and sound, a sound removed – but not completely cut off from – the early Night Slugs era, post dubstep material he released around the start of the 10s. 

But now, with musical pals such as Ciel, Nathan Micay, Lunice, Martyn Bootyspoon and UK producer Fort Romeau drenching Greene's tracks in their own colourful hues, 'Dawn Chorus' grows and shape-shifts both Greene and his songs once more. 

On the menu there's "club primetime house and techno, afterparty warehouse versions, IDM, shoegaze and fully deconstructed ambient" so there's plenty to tuck into, with @FortRomeau's remix of 'Night Service' among the highlights.
