I rediscovered some deep house gems from The Timewriter (@the-timewriter) with his 2002 album Diary Of A Lonely Sailor, which I actually bought on CD two decades ago. Back then, I didn’t realize it was deep house, just 'house'—and little did I know my love for deep house would last at least 20 years 💚

Fouk are a Dutch deep house duo with records on Heist, Shall Not Fade, Razor'N'Tape and many more. Their own label, Outplay, is one of the real secret gems in the scene, with a small but tight discography, every release being distinct from the others and absolutely essential. 

In addition to this issue's cover feature, @justsayfouk also put together this mix for our Sanctify deep house series.

"It's full of tracks we've been digging lately," the duo says "It starts out a bit slower, nice and melodic flowing into disco-fied and full on house music upping the tempo along the way!

This sparked a deeper connection, leading me to explore Schumann’s Carnaval, performed by Rubinstein, as mentioned in the story. Just like how Murakami’s tale weaves together music and introspection, this show delves into the mysteries that music uncovers. As a label that’s been growing for just over five years now, there are certain artists who’ve shaped our journey long before we even knew we’d start one. DJ Caspa @tundecas41 is one of those djs. We’ve been listening to his sets for more than a decade, long before the idea of launching this podcast series was even a thought. And if there’s one thing that’s stayed consistent all these years, it’s the sheer quality of what he delivers. But Caspa’s story runs even deeper. He picked up mixing at around the young age of 16, and from that moment on, music became a life path. Growing up during the acid house and Balearic era, the spark was lit early. His first love was Jungle Music and like any true selector, his vinyl collection exploded fast. He chased fresh sounds relentlessly, from early radio sessions in the '90s on stations like Weekend Rush, Pressure FM, Rinse FM, Unknown FM, Deja Vu, and Magic FM, all the way through to building one of the most respected Sunday shows on Rinse FM itself. Caspa lived through multiple waves of dance music, growing to a seasoned club DJ. He’s played up and down the UK and regularly traveled abroad. The sound on this podcast is 100% unreleased music from his friends in the scene. In addition to his club and radio legacy, DJ Caspa also curates his own acclaimed podcast series Upfront & Personal, known for hosting high-calibre guests such as Chris Stussy, Mr G, Djoko, Josh Butler, Anotr, Sidney Charles, Larry da Kat and many more. Soulful house legend Timmy Regisford brings his trademark sound to Quantize Recordings again.   “Falling in Love” is a sumptuously sizzling heater, marrying Regisford’s classic soul-laden production with Tiger Wilson’s sensuous vocals. It’s a combination that will ease any pains, calm any worries and bring a smile to the face, bottling up that sunshine feeling for those darker days when a little lift is needed.   Timmy offers four mixes that bring a real versatility to this single. First up, the  “Original Vocal” and “Instrumental” Mixes that let Regisford’s bumping bass, jazzed up piano, swelling strings and spiritual keys shine under Wilson’s stellar vocal performance. Secondly, the “Alternative Vocal Mix” switches the percussion of the original opting for more congas, shakers and bongos whilst leaving the claps at bay to give a deeper interpretation of the original. Finally, the “Alternative Dub” drops the vocals of this alternate version completing what is another standout release from Timmy Regisford that captures the soulful essence of 2018.
