The Echo of Eurydice
In the days when the gods still listened to mortals, lived Orpheus, son of Apollo and the muse Calliope. His voice was not just melody: it was memory, desire, and destiny. When he sang, rivers stopped, wolves slept, and broken hearts healed for an instant.
Eurydice, a wood nymph, danced among the oaks like a breath of light. Orpheus loved her with a devotion that transcended the limits of time. But death, jealous of such beauty, claimed her with a snakebite. Her body fell, and her soul descended to the realm of Hades.
Orpheus, torn apart, took up his lyre and descended to the underworld. Not with weapons, but with notes that cried eternal love. The shadows stopped. Cerberus closed his three mouths. Persephone wept. Hades, moved, offered a deal: Eurydice could follow him, but Orpheus must not look back until they were both beneath the sunlight.
And so they walked. Silence. Footsteps. The edge of the world was approaching. But love, fragile and blind, whispered doubts in Orpheus's ear. What if he didn't come? What if it was a deception? One step away from salvation, he turned his head.
Eurydice reached out, but it was already air. It vanished like a sigh, like a forgotten verse. Her name floated in every note Orpheus sang from then on.
