This is one of my older songs that I am still quite fond of..  I have had fun mixing it up with some random sounds from my laundry and goodness knows where else while I was in creative mode!  And yes, that picture IS the machine performing in the piece.. :-))

The Art of Hoquet - A Dream of Joy

Based on Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, 4th movement, Ode to Joy  
On December 16th we celebrate Ludwig van Beethoven's 250th Birthday.

The composition is written in a contemporary style using the technique of hoquet.

The term Hoquet is a French word (in Old French also hocquet, hoket, or ocquet) meaning "a shock, sudden interruption, hitch, or hiccup".  Although the term is in reference to the secular music of the 13th and 14th centuries in France, the technique, under other names, could be heard in different types of music across the world as early as the 11th century.  Hoquet is the rhythmic linear technique using the alternation of notes, pitches, or chords.  In medieval practice of hocket, a single melody is shared between two (or occasionally more) voices or instruments such that alternately one voice sounds while the other rests.  Hoquet is also used in Indonesian Gamelan music, African music, Classical music, Jazz and popular music.
