This is a song about loving someone who’s given up on loving you, particularly from the view of a Husband and Wife going through a divorce, where one party is still in love and the other is moving on. It’s bittersweet, a longing for what once was, and yearning to be again once yet it is… lost.

J. Nabil—or Joshua, as his friends know him—is a “Jack of all trades” kind of artist hailing from Washington D.C. His music is rooted in the deconstructed elements of R&B, using everything the genre has—layered with the grit of Boom Bap, the moodiness of Trip-Hop, and the soul of his upbringing—singing in choirs and playing in bands. These influences collide and evolve into his self-coined genre, Urban Cowboy Blues: a sound and philosophy born from his walk with Christ through shifting seasons—finding reasons to sing the blues in a world that often shies away from them. It’s about fighting nihilism with faith, without denying the weight of our troubles or the depth of what we feel.

He describes his music simply: “These are just the sounds I hear in my head, along with the movie I feel like I’m living in.” It’s funky, it’s vibey, but it’s never empty. Every song carries intention. “I’m not here to waste words,” he says. Whether he’s writing, producing, or performing, his mission stays the same: to tell the truth, to make you feel, and to make you move.

What he hopes to accomplish with the music is a return to truth—the good, the bad, the ugly, and the nuance that ties it all together. It’s about faith in the face of what feels like overwhelming fear. The blues aren’t about sadness—they’re about singing through the suffering we all face. And with that, there is hope and faith.

Samuel Ellison, professionally known as Maztr is an American producer/audio engineer based out of the DMV area. He began his music career as a drummer in his church and started making music with his friends (Muhteyoh & Lil Røcket) later forming the label Normal Present and the studio Homegrown Productions MD in 2012. In 2017 Samuel formed a Production Company GoodBoyz Muzic, LLC. with Joe Dohn releasing their first single "2ctr" in late January 2020.  Maztr has worked with artists such as Joe Dohn, Muhteyoh, Lil Røcket, MissChelle Renee, C'est Lief, Retrospectro & B-Nard.
