Quantum Spins sounded like a good alertnative sound arts podcast playlist title, at least for starters. I'd been thinking about how to re-present sounds, music, audio, ideas about sonic & vibrational phenomena that I had been listening to or thinking about seriously and now here it is. My aim is to expose listeners to items I've found particularly fertile, inspirational and essential either in that they back up or initialize my own catalytics or genuinely throw a spanner into overly aggregrated or pat systems of how music and information should be organized or presented. This is a depot for highly charged works of art, maybe even a museum but not a venue (I am not seeking submissions nor for what some algorithm deems to be similar nor to have more of the same, not at all). I put here certain works I might have wanted to make if I had had the means or situation to do so and/or things I could never have imagined before. Despite being essential to life on Earth, the magnetic field isn’t something we can actually see in itself, or ever hear. But, remarkably, scientists at the Technical University of Denmark have taken magnetic signals measured by ESA’s Swarm satellite mission and converted them into sound – and for something that protects us, the result is pretty scary.

You Are Never Alone But...

This is an Extract from the Premiere of my new solo performance "Interdimensional Generated Space", premiered in October 2022 at Panke Culture in Belin, as a part of the series (Von Antennenwäldern und Wellenozeanen) . 

A research-intensive piece focusing on the transcendental phenomenon of the Northern Lights. 
The planned performance uses the implement of self-made recordings from the Northern Lights, in combination with self-made crystal radio, plus light, detectors, and motors, to simulate a technological audio-visual version of Northern Lights in the performance space. “Interdimensional” specifically refers to the movement of energy between modes of perception. One part of this energy come from the composed mixture of “natural cosmic voices”; and another part is coming from the electromagnetic forces generated and captured in real time during the performance. The piece make full use of the contrasts of the invisible processes, to create a new experience of space, time, and human scale. 
This is an attempt to achieve a unique sonic dialogue 
between “Natural” and “Technological” world, a reflection on Nature that is imitated by technology in an anthropogenic age.

We Do Our Thing

My Body Is The Forest, The Forest Is My Body is a sound track, which accompanies the video project(phot. Jacek Jaca Wisniewsky),  under the same title, shot in the endangered zone of Bialowieza Forest.
This project searches to understand better the interrelation between the body and the forest through the
similarities which connect both organisms and to make it present to a viewer, aiming at changing the sociopolitical distance between the body of the viewer and the forest bringing it closer together instigating a more intimate relation between the two.
Bialowieza is one of the last remaining parts of the primal forest that once stretched across the northern European lowlands and a designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is home to many rare and unique species of wildlife including being the only area, where the european bison still survives in the wild. It is currently under threat from increased logging, which is the policy of the new polish government. The policy is very controversial and subject to intense debate, which gives a context to this project.

Taking a recording I made of a resonant cathedral space in Berlin, I sought to compose a sequence of frames that might reveal the complex relationships of reflective surfaces by creating gaps and juxtapositions of diverse moments, a sonic cubist approach. I was interested in finding traces that reinforce both the silence and the sound by venturing into a ruptured temporal fabric. My body, my device. Sound that reveals the silence, the interplay between calm and turbulence, the rustling thresholds of clothing etc. One of the revealing sounds was that of an infant. In the manipulation of the sound file the child's voice undergoes a metamorphosis. I leave it to the listeners to have their own experience of this transformation.  The pure play of voice as it reaches the limits of it own articulation evolves with the aid of digital means toward an otherness and echoes the lost or forgotten voices perhaps recovered in this moment between birth and extinction.
