Drops of water on the evening pavement, a gently murmuring stream, and laughing fountain, or a still, cool rain: Images of Water creates varying facets of this most basic necessity of life. This piece explores some of the many forms water takes in our world and finds the beauty and delight within. The simplest, gentlest forms of water can often be overlooked, but each elicits its own emotional reaction. Every scene is a snapshot of an experience, and every note a drop into the world of sounds.

Amy Lowell was part of the Imagist movement, which strove to create precise imagery using concise language, while distancing itself from over-sentimentality. This piece takes the poem "Falling Snow" and creates the musical equivalent of the imagery in the work. The constant ostinati moving throughout the choir evoke gentle snowfall, and the whispering conveys the swirling wind as it moves from voice to voice. The distant, wintry harmonic language is at times broken by richer sounds that recall a warmer emotions.

Space Oddity

"Before, After, Together" was written in 2012. The quartet is abstract, rather than narrative, but its movements reflect three states of being. The first movement reflects life before some altering event, the second is about the time after that event, and the third is the synthesis of both times together into a new state. The quartet is not a musical depiction of any particular life event, and no particular life event is implied.
