Late Horizon w/ Jeff Revolución - 26th November 2022

The first Late Horizon of the year! It was kind of a last minute replacement thing, so a bit stressful to only have a few days to prepare with a NYE bender in between... It turned out to be a blessing, because preparing for this show helped me cope with the NYE hangover BIG TIME. I was already planning on this show to be a bit more ambient/downtempo, just easing your way into the new year with an adventurous spirit though! The first hour features Cuban rumba, Peruvian cumbia, and the colorfoul bunch of Gal Costa, Thom Yorke, The Alchemist and Camarón de la Isla, among others. 
You will find the beats in the second hour, with bass heavy dancehall/dembow riddims and other trippy electronica. But enough rambling from me, enjoy the ride!

Seguímos avanzando! Because there is so much more to share I decided to make this a yearly thing. Every July show will be dedicated to Peruvian Independence, with a full two hours of music made by Peruvians. It contains a wide variety of music, from Afro-Peruvian tapdancing to huaynitos from the Andes. From legends like Yma Sumac, César Bolaños and Los Mirlos to newer faces Parzubanil and DJ Latinchat. Dark, bright, moody, trippy, happy, romantic, it's all there. Que viva el Perú!

Back in the Operator studio after two very fun club gigs at kanaal40! Although I did play some of the tunes at the club as well, most tracks I play here I wasn't able to fit in these particular club nights. So it's nice to play some weirder, trippy and housey stuff in the blue container. Dekmantel was a big source of inspiration too, listened to some great sets! I always leave that festival with a hunger to express myself through music even more :)

This month's Late Horizon marks the end of the festival season, for me here in the Netherlands at least. With Draaimolen still fresh on my mind (best fest in NL in my humble opinion) I recorded this set, starting quite chill at 140 and gradually building up within that tempo (what a spectrum, love it!). Eventually building a bridge to higher tempos, finishing around 180 (or 90). Special mention to the Behuá Icára and unknown - untitled V.A. compilations, played three tracks from each. ¡OJO! After the oh so famous Operator jingle you won't hear a thing for 40 seconds due to a technical. Embrace this silence! Adjust your seat, fasten your seatbelt, get a drink or snack, hold a loved one, take some deep breaths... Or just skip it.

Late Horizon welcomes it's first guest! I was thinking of having guests on for some time, I just wasn't really sure on how to approach it. Then my mate Ben Rothes proposed that we should do each other's shows, and it just felt like the right thing to do. We actually kind of met because of Operator, so it feels like a cute little full circle moment.

Next to being a great friend Ben is a phenomenal DJ, as you will hear in the second hour of the show. His mix is made up of 100% unreleased material, due to come out on Hilltown Disco and Exiled Records, the Scottish record labels he co-runs.

I'm on for the first hour, and although we dwell in very different spaces in the music universe, I feel like there are some similarities in our dj styles as well. In these mixes we are both drawn to this gritty, dark dancefloor aesthetic, the same space we bonded over, front left on a Croatian shore all those years ago...

And why not go out with a bang :)

It has mostly been a frustrating year for me on many levels, but luckily there is always music in my life. On that aspect I am feeling more stronger, confident and hungry than ever.
There is always room for improvement, but I feel like I am able to express myself more and more, step by step. My own sound is starting to take shape. It is a rocky and lonely road at times, but what rests is to be grateful for what I have in life. On that note I would like to express my gratitude for all the people that let me be me, unapologetically. My family and friends first and foremost. Operator for giving me a platform and this warm community in a cold city. I also would like to thank them for booking me for one of their events, together with all the other lot that took the chance to actually book me. S/O to all the people that invited me on their shows/streams, it is really appreciated. And most importantly, a massive S/O to all the artists that created the soundtrack to my life and these Late Horizons, ustedes saben quiénes son.
I will take matters into my own hands, exciting stuff on the Horizon. Having more guests on next year, and I will try to expand into a club night at some point. Who knows what else. Chau for now, un abrazo!
