Biography
Airway Lanes was formed in Melbourne, Australia by guitarist/vocalists Dan Hall and Chris Hawker in 2004.

Dan Hall was a founding member of the pop/rock group Taxiride. In 1999, their album 'Imaginate' debuted at number one on the Australian charts and went on to sell over 200 000 copies, achieving double platinum status. Their ARIA award winning single "Get Set" was a top ten hit in Australia and broke the top 40 in Europe and the USA. After extensive worldwide touring and promotion for "Imaginate", Hall left Taxiride in 2000, returning to Melbourne to focus on songwriting and production. 

Chris Hawker was the guitarist in local band Bodymotors, who achieved success in the mid 1990's after relocating from Perth to Melbourne. After that group folded, Hawker became a guitarist for hire. Interestingly, he filled Hall's spot in Taxiride on their 2000 tour with Matchbox 20.

The pair met in 2003 and began writing songs together with the intention of writing for other artists, but soon they were performing around Melbourne as an acoustic duo. They decided to form a full electric band called Airway Lanes, and in mid 2005 recruited Spyder Marrett and Scrubby Evans on drums and bass respectively. The band did a series of memorable shows at the Duke Of Windsor hotel in Prahran, Melbourne with Jet and the Living End, shortly before the iconic pub closed its doors.

In January 2006 Airway Lanes were signed to Dust Devil Music and recorded their debut EP at Sing Sing studios in Melbourne with Jimi Maroudas (Pete Murray, Living End) producing.

The lead track "Desire" was well received and was played on both commercial and independent radio and TV.

After promoting and touring the EP nationally, the band began writing their debut album. 

"In Vino Veritas" was released in June 2008 and launched with a sold out show at Chapel Off Chapel theatre in Melbourne. Co produced by Hall, Hawker and Rikki Rae (Electric Mary, Irwin Thomas), the album was a departure from the straight ahead melodic rock of the EP, with the addition of Tim Wild (Taxiride) on keyboards and vocals. With lush, expansive arrangements and the addition of strings and horns, "In Vino Veritas" is regarded highly as one of the great locally produced albums of the era.

After a year touring and promoting the album, the band went into hiatus in 2009. 

In late 2013, Hall and Hawker resolved their issues over a bottle of whiskey and started writing again. This led to the full band doing a Christmas reunion show at the Inkerman Hotel in December 2013.

The band are currently writing and rehearsing meterial for a mid year release.

Anyone who has seen Tommy Rando perform already knows what the rest of the world is about to discover. Tommy's songs are strong and individual; however, the first thing that captures your attention is the unique tone of his voice which has a warm and husky texture. Even his soulful whisper conveys power, conviction and grace - all the cuts and bruises of a life fully lived. When he lets rip, we see his emotion creep in like an approaching storm.

Rando, an Australian singer-songwriter, was helped along by a scholarship grant to the National Guitar Summer Workshop held in Connecticut, New York.

It was there that Tommy was guided to seek out the ingredients that shaped his artistic style. Following his time in New York, Tommy toured the US for BMI hooking up with industry greats such as Jeff Cohen, Seymore Stein and ex-manager to Elton John, John Reid.

Back at home, Tommy has played with Australia's best including: "Taxiride", "Boomcrash Opera" and "Invertigo". He has written songs for Vanessa Amorosi, Lee Harding, Alan Fletcher and Kirsty Crawford to name just a few. With a growing catalogue, Tommy has his tunes playing regularly on the television show "Neighbours" as well as co-writing the number one ARIA hit "Wasabi" for Australian Idol's Lee Harding.

Early inspiration came from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Steve Ray Vaughan, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Elton John, Cats Stevens, Joni Mitchell, John Hiatt, Miles Davis, Radiohead, The Dave Matthews Band, soul, blues and gospel singers. 

There is no doubt that anyone in the audience of one of Tommy's shows will see a brilliant singer/songwriter who truly wears his heart on his sleeve. His ageless songs are executed with vision and clarity and delivered with heart-felt reflection and passion.

Tucked away in a world class mix room at the legendary  Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, and Bopnique 3.0 and 4.0 in Nashua and Sherman Oaks  are the secret lairs of producer, engineer, omni-instrumentalist and holistic music creator Anthony J. Resta (a.k.a. Ajax Ray-O-Vaque) hides like a musical comic-book hero’s Beat Cave. Studio Bopnique (http://www.bopnique.com) like hipster L.A. clubs with no sign or outward evidence, is one of those places that doesn’t advertise. Seventy hour weeks are the norm in the studio’s newly expanded 3700 square foot rustic loft which houses an incredible array of instruments, particularly keyboards of which over 30 are evident. Anthony and his right arm engineer Karyadi Sutedja run a two-ring circus that is truly a wonder to behold.

While his first foray into international production  was Anthony’s five year, thirty song relationship with Duran Duran. “Simon Lebon called me after hearing a mix… some strange cowboy lady with a conch shell backing... He said ‘You’re mad lad, we want you over here!’” The relationship and experience changed Anthony’s life.

He began as a session drummer, working into programming in the late 80’s through expertise with the Linn Drum. “I hung out with Prince in London in 1999 and we talked about how cool that machine was (featured in When Doves Cry)” Anthony laughs. A photo of Anthony and Karyadi with Elton John hides in a corner near the studio’s small kitchen. These guys get around.

Anthony first developed his skill as a producer in a studio south of Boston. “Courtlen Recording gave me an opportunity to basically live under the grand piano and be in-house producer, teaming me up with great engineers like Fred Danner, Bob St. John (multiple Grammy winner), Paul Hager, Tom Soares and Chris Lannon.”

Anthony and Karyadi maintain distinct workstations in Bopnique’s cavernous sprawl, Anthony surrounded by never-ending keyboards, string simulators, drum machines and other nick-nacks all wired by midi to the mix station Karyadi nomally pilots. When not orchestrating in his realm, Anthony paces excitedly behind Karyadi mumbling and humming in a fashion that agrees with Lebon’s first
impression… mad. Equally mad is Karyadi’s ability to understand every utterance and instantly translate it to technical expression seemingly by telepathy. This Spidey-sense allows them to accomplish otherwise daunting mix feats in short time.

Resta has grown past a distinct production style. “Once I learned that it was all about the song and knowing what to leave out, it became transparent... just getting the best out of people and making the right statement for the songs.” Likewise, Anthony has no particular favorite style of music. “I used to be
into electronica but I really like recording real instruments. I like mixing the most real sounds with one or two completely unreal sounds, then making them sound like they belong together.”

This juxtaposition of purely organic and wildly synthetic is evident in Anthony’s work as an artist, recording “performance art” under the name Ajax Ray-O-Vaque with one album “Demos Of Saturn” out on Intelligent Records and a follow up due in ’08. Scattered poetry collections from authors like Bukowski alongside his photography of beloved New England fishing excursions define the vibe in
Anthony’s home base where the artists and labels now come to him.

“After I tired of 8 months a year in a hotel, I started putting my money into the place (Bopnique). Now people come from London, Miami, L.A., N.YC., Portugal, etc to record here!”

‘05 Feature – Producer Anthony J. Resta 

In the progressive rock world, I worked under the names Sir Millard Mulch and Dr. Zoltan. I’ve made music with Dweezil Zappa, Virgil Donati, Mike Keneally, Marco Minnemann, Travis Orbin, Thomas Lang, and Morgan Agren. My 2005 album, “How To Sell The Whole F#@!ing Universe To Everybody, Once And For All!” was co-released on Mimicry Records owned by Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle. 

I now focus on scoring orchestral music for TV and film. I studied composition at State College of Florida and I have a Master Certificate in Composition and Orchestration for Film & TV from Berklee Online. 

In the filmmaking world, I’ve worked on several documentaries (Jon Schnepp’s The Death Of Superman Lives: What Happened starring Tim Burton and Kevin Smith, Apocalypse Later: Harold Camping Vs The End of the World, and Morgan Agren’s Conundrum featuring Devin Townsend and Brendon Small). 

Lately, I create my own animated shows, which I also write, direct, and score.
