Another snippet from Caligo Paean - beware of gifts when chasing gods : ) 

Caligo Paean is a 1 hour long sound piece installed on river front property in the town of Franklin, Tasmania as part of the exhibition "When The Fog Clears". It formed part of the Ten Days on The Island Festival March 2025.
The work was installed in several locations across the property including a stack of subs under an old bus, in the main exhibition space and in an abandoned shed some 40 metres from the main area . The speakers were 'tuned' quite differently depending on their location and the sound was not delay corrected with the result of each mini-installation merging with each other in odd sonic ways - kind of calling the listener from one spot to another. The the work features field recordings, percussion, piano, bass guitar and Intonarumori as well as this special one off choir : )

Caligo is the Ancient goddess of Chaos. Born of the fog she controls the darkness, dwells in the void and is as old as the primordial matter that created the universe. This work is a tribute to the goddess as she continues to influence our lives and, in the case of this installation, the site and concept informing the show.

Every day, the mists of the Huon Valley perform a seductive dance, gently obscuring and revealing contours of the fertile land and waters. Situated in The Watershed Franklin, When The Fog Clears features six artists from lutruwita / Tasmania exploring the region’s iconic mists through a variety of mediums including installation, sculpture, illustration, sound, and video.

Developed exclusively for Franklin, this exhibit extends from the waterfront itself into the chambers, kilns, and rafters of the shed, inviting visitors to consider fog as an atmosphere that can cloak us in unexpected ways.

Quand les mots tuent plus que les coups de poings, quand le désir de chair ne raccommode pas de tout, quand les serments d'amour sont grignotés par les dents du temps, ne reste que la guillotine de la séparation. Jean-Paul Gaido-Daniel signe ici et chante avec toute la puissance de sa voix un de ses textes les plus forts. Et la musique de Myckaël Marcovic est à l'image de cette dernière nuit orageuse de ce couple qui se déchire, entre violence et abattement jusqu'au calme final de la désolation subie dans ce champ de bataille d'où nul ne sort vainqueur...

When words kill more than fists, when physical desire cannot mend everything, when vows of love are gnawed away by the teeth of time, all that remains is the guillotine of separation. Jean-Paul Gaido-Daniel writes and sings one of his most powerful lyrics with all the power of his voice. And Myckaël Marcovic's music reflects the stormy final night of this couple tearing themselves apart, between violence and despondency, until the final calm of the desolation suffered on this battlefield from which no one emerges victorious...

A composition inspired by the idea that a simple gift can have a lasting impact as others continue to pass it on. This theme of "passing it on" is represented in the track by the repetition of the main musical theme.

Here's my version of this classic Irish ballad. Mclhatton was an old fiddler who knew how to make an excellent Poitin, the ancestor of whiskey. When the valley where he lived filled with buyers of his fine liquor, many tried to capture him, but he knew how to hide well and was never caught. Enjoy my track and share! CIAO
