Taiwan Jon (Jonathan McDougall) is a Canadian musician based in Taipei, Taiwan.  He began learning music in at age five, starting with the piano.  At age ten, he began to learn and understand the basics of sound synthesis.  In high school, he played guitar for the high school stage band, as well as began to write and create his own songs using a combination of guitars, keyboards and recorded samples.

Jonathan is a two-time graduate of the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College in Canada, with diplomas in Recording Engineering and Digital Music Applications.  During his college years, he made numerous live performances both as a solo performer and in bands with his classmates.   After college, Jonathan continued to write his own songs, as well as help produce and engineer records for some of his musician friends.  

In Taiwan, Jonathan has occasionally performed live in various settings, such as friends’ weddings, company events and with bands such as Tairpochia and the Chihlee University Ukulele Club.  In 2012, he released a Vocaloid album titled “Still Moving On”, under the artist name 約拿單 feat. 巡音ルカ.

Today and for the last four years, Jonathan has focused on analog subtractive synthesis, exclusively using hardware synthesizers from world-renowned manufacturers Moog and Korg.  Now with decades of musical experience under his belt, he aspires to create instrumental electronic music that is accessible yet incorporates new sounds and new ideas.  He continues to learn and grow, developing and refining new strategies to make better music.  His album, “Taiwan Jon” was the first commercial release under this new paradigm.  His new EP, "Lemon Lime" features music that will be used in upcoming episodes of the podcast "Pixel Meditiations".
