2026 Marching Band Shows

Per Aspera Ad Astra was commissioned by the 2020-2021 Kamiakin High School Instrumental Musical program during the Covid-19 pandemic when all classes were virtual. The Italian translation of the title is, "through hardships to the stars". Students brainstormed ideas with me over zoom and the piece was composed so that it could be recorded and performed virtually. Fortunately, virtual learning came to an end and the piece was able to be performed live! 

The piece has a lot of cinematic influences and is orchestrated for flex band/orchestra meaning that it can work for a full orchestra or just a concert band. The piece also uses a backing track that can be played through any speaker system or programmed to a MainStage setup. Climb aboard our high-speed journey through a world where motion connects us all. All Aboard begins by framing speed as a defining force of modern life. It is something that drives us, motivates us, and keeps us racing ahead. But the moment we step onto the train platform, we become part of a shared experience far bigger than any individual.

As the train launches forward, the production bursts into energy and color, capturing the thrill, chaos, and character of travel. Each passenger becomes a story, each moment a fleeting intersection of lives. The opener celebrates a lively mix of people from every background moving together, even if only for a short stretch of track. The show then slows its pace, revealing the quieter side of the journey. Surrounded by strangers, we’re reminded that everyone carries hopes, struggles, and destinations of their own. A reflective ballad opens a window into these inner worlds, offering warmth, beauty, and a sense of connection as the train continues onward. The final act returns to momentum in the form of an exhilarating surge of rhythm and forward drive. Even as the passengers diverge toward their own futures, the show's closer emphasizes that the journey is never truly solitary.

All Aboard concludes on an uplifting note, celebrating shared paths, unexpected connections, and the ongoing search for where we’re meant to be.

All Mine tells a dramatic parable of ambition, greed, and the cost of obsession, set against the evocative backdrop of the California Gold Rush. This show invites performers and audiences alike to ask: When does the pursuit of greatness become the loss of ourselves? Caged is a powerful emotional narrative about the ways we become trapped. We become trapped by circumstance, expectation, fear, or even by our own thoughts and it takes an enormous amount of  courage to break free. The production moves from introspection to upheaval to liberation, presenting a journey audiences can feel as much as see.

The show opens in a restrained, internal world, where the performers inhabit a sense of confinement and stillness. As the production unfolds, that world begins to crack open. Energy surges, pressure builds, and the ensemble pushes against invisible walls challenging the forces that limit and define us. In the final act, the show erupts into a triumphant celebration of release. Barriers collapse, movement expands, and the performers claim a powerful sense of freedom and self-determination.

Beyond attempting to replicate Holkenborg's orchestration, I wanted a look under the hood at how a major film composer completes the atmosphere of a film using music and sound design. While my recreation features a few creative liberties, capturing the adrenaline and thrill of the film, through Holkenborg's interpretation, was the main goal.

Mad Max: Fury Road - "Brothers In Arms" Soundtrack Remake

Coldplay's first major single turned 20 this month! I was working on an arrangement of this song, for a scholastic group, that unfortunately got delayed due to COVID-19. So I took the opportunity to reimagine the song through some alt-indie influences like Bon Iver, S. Carey, and Sufjan Stevens.

This is my first full project in Logic Pro X! I've been working in Adobe Audition the past five years and am excited to branch out into a more robust production software.
