Hungry

I love love! It’s so powerful and beautiful to me. I want it, I crave it, I admire it, and yet... I haven't found it myself. Summer is always an especially strange time for me and love. I’m always way more in my feels. Tumultuous experiences that leave me feeling sad, lost, and longing so deeply for something that remains out of reach.

Mostly a mix of drum & bass, ambient and breaks, it was made during profound feelings of sadness and longing. It takes you through beautiful highs…. those euphoric feelings you get with love. But it also takes you through a disorienting and broken place where you are so lost and lonely.

I hope by listening to this mix, one can experience the sweeping span of emotions I did while making it. I just really like using my emotions to guide my mixing.

Filled with Detroit and Detroit-adjacent artists and sounds that remind me of the 313 and the music that got me hooked on this shit.

Ode 2 Detroit

A broken beat, percussive swirl of sounds...

...a soupy concoction of uk bass, hard drum, electro, breaks, a little trance, maybe even some idm? Honestly I'm not sure how to describe this one. I recorded it during a swell of emotions and needed that cathartic, musical release.

The beginning is broken and jarring, erratic and unsettling… riding through false peaks and fragmented breakdowns. It’s a bit dark and unclear as to what will happen next. As time goes on, there’s a slow build up of clarity: you can feel yourself coming out of the darkness and into something brighter… something freeing. You feel lighter at the end…. skin tingling with tenderness and elation."

JEM, a raver first, DJ second. Mixing a freaky fusion of leftfield electro, uk bass, wave, idm, acid, and more.
With a musical background stemming from everything but electronic music, expect the unexpected when it comes to her sets. You’ll hear influences from punk, Motown, jazz, hip hop, shoegaze, rock.Her inspiration knows no bounds.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit and now a proper city resident of ten years. Detroit is ingrained in her and she is representing the birthplace of techno from a point of view focused on recognizing and sharing the rich musical and cultural history of the city, while simultaneously pushing the status quo and breaking boundaries of what electronic music is "supposed" to be.

About the mix:
This is a one-take, all-vinyl mix focusing on my collection of '90s/'00s hardgroove and rave records, with a few modern records included. I wanted to keep things simple with just two turntables and a basic mixer. Real old school shit. I feel like it transports you back in time to a warehouse or basement rave where there weren't any bells or whistles, trendy tricks or social media. But it's cool because, despite many of these tracks being 20, even 30 years old, the sounds still feel relevant and bangin' for today.
