To celebrate our 50th episode, we invited one of our biggest inspirations,  the beloved UK producer Nathan Fake, who delivers a 60min mix that blends left-field electronics, dance heaters and techno dreamscapes like no one else does. timeless sounds by a timeless artist.

An outsider artist since day one, Fake uses cheap and easy-to-acquire technology to make his always idiosyncratic sounds. Fake's established himself as a pivotal figure in the world dance culture by producing modern electronic cuts such as 'Outhouse', 'You Are Here' and 'The Sky Was Pink'.
From the early days at the legendary 'Border Community' through 'Ninja Tune' and his own imprint 'Cambria Instruments' Nathan holds 5 studio albums, the latest 'Blizzards' which was described by some, as his best work to date.

Throughout the years he took on a number of impressive and diverse remixes, from Radiohead to Jon Hopkins to Clark, working for labels such as Ninja Tune, Domino and Warp. Extensive touring has taken his sound across the globe, including notable tours with Orbital, Four Tet, Jon Hopkins & Clark.

Introducing "Before the Meeting", a monthly section of our radio that will feature a dj set of an artist who performs the next day at the meeting of phase.ctv. Through the session will put us in extasis for what is coming the next day.

In this first installment we have the Asturian artist Axia, she will be opening tomorrow the "Green Room" with a set where she will experiment with different sounds. The artist has grown throughout his life in an environment close to music and clubbing stepping on booths in legendary clubs like Siroco, Lanna Club or The Bass Valley, among others. On this occasion Axia brings us a session of more than two and a half hours with different genres such as techno, electro, EBM, ... To not sleep a wink!

BEFORE THE MEETING #001: AXIA

EPM Podcast 164 comes from Detroit man DJ Rolando. Having made his name as The Aztec Mystic on Underground Resistance and as Los Hermanos (on his own eponymous label) alongside Gerald Mitchell, he now runs his second label venture R3 (Roland Rocha Records) and exclusively releases his own music on the imprint. This mix captures then man in techno funk heaven as he brings together tracks from Steve Rachmad, Rennie Foster, R.M.K., Jeran Fortis, Ribe & Roll Dann, Mark Broom, The Exaltics, Elisa Bee, Mr G & Duncan Forbes, Klint and of course some hot up and coming floor bombs from the man himself!

Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a Hispanic district, and was heavily influenced by his cultural Latin rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the community. It was later when he heard Jeff Mills in 1985 as ‘The Wizard’ that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined Underground Resistance in 1994. 

In 1999 'Knights of the Jaguar', although not Rolando's first release on UR, turned perceptions of Techno on their head, breaking into other genres of dance music and becoming a classic in the boxes of DJs such as Tenaglia, Oakenfold and Gilles Peterson. The track has a long legacy of reworking and lives on nearly 25 years later inspiring audiences from all genres. Rolando continues to work internationally as a DJ and still preaches the word of techno to enthusiastic crowds the world over.

Sseagulls, from deepest Norfolk, floating in to provide a mix for the GGHQ! Head Keg filler and party supplier for the Cosmic Pint Glass, Sseagulls, has been organising the musical output for the record label for the past 12 years. This mix was originally assembled to put some of the Cosmic Pint Glass influences on paper. Containing Library Gems, Jazz Fusion, Deep and Balearic House, Minimal and Prog Rock, these tracks are from all ends of the human creation. But there is a common thread in them all, a shared brightness. All exuding some sort of granular sparkles, covered in cosmic sprinkles if you will.

“It’s more about sound and vibrations rather than images and personalities. My sound is obviously based a lot on the original house and techno records from the 80s and 90s, but I try and add a new twist and put my own stamp on it somehow. For inspiration I get a lot of that from listening to jazz, jazz-funk records, weird experimental music, ideas from philosophy and sci-fi films and things like that. If there’s something I like I try to copy the moods rather than the styles. I try and make my music capture the feeling of a certain time and place. So when people are listening to my music I hope that what I was feeling and was influenced by when I was making it comes through. I like to keep things simple a fairly raw, too much gloss kills the soul.”
