With a deep love and vast knowledge of music, plus a dedication to uplifting the careers of other women, Tessa Young has carved out a niche for herself as both a DJ and an agent. She launched her career behind the decks over a decade ago and has gone to play numerous venues, private parties, weddings and corporate events. She has played TwitchCon's Broadcaster Royale Omen Challenge and Vans Girls and Women skate events, as well as provided the tunes for a wide range of clients, including City of Hope and Too Faced Cosmetics.

Early in her career, people often told Tessa that they had difficulty finding women who DJ. In response, she launched Prism DJs as a full-service agency that pairs clients with women who will build the soundtracks for parties, weddings and events. Prism DJs began in 2015 with a roster of four DJs. Today, Tessa works with a network of 30 whose specialties range from hip-hop to house to indie dance. "It became a passion," she says, "to get women more work."

Tessa works with potential clients to discern what music and atmosphere they envision for their events before pairing them with the perfect DJ. Looking for house music with an upscale, lounge vibe? Need '90s throwbacks for a birthday party? She has someone in mind for you.

Prism DJs has provided two scholarships for teenage girls to attend Camp Spinoff, where Tessa has volunteered in 2018 and 2019. Recently, Prism DJs has also held fundraisers for the Black Lives Matter movement and Downtown Women's Center.

Started Djing in clubs in 1990 in Auckland,New Zealand. Didn't find my musical feet until 1993 when I became resident DJ @ Cause Celebre. Playing alonside Manuel Bundy / Gerhard Pierhard increased my knowledge and style and I began to develope my own 'sound'. Moved on to the Khuja Lounge in '97 which was just exploding at the time.

Gigged all around town in small bars to clubs and everything in between. 1998 saw me move to London for a year and hookup with the Finger Lickin' crew in Camden. Bar Vinyl was my first break into the European scene. Came back to Khuja after that and was headhunted for Galatos which at the time was the only other club which had a similar feel and music policy to Khuja.
 Worked @ George FM with a show every Sunday called 'Jazzadelic' for two years. 2003 found me back in London again for a substantial time (6 years). Played many more venues - Fabric / Dragon Bar / Lockside Lounge / Player / Match Bar / Bar Vinyl / Neighbourhood / Bullet Bar / Bar Lorca / Bug Bar / Big Chill Bar and Medcalf. Currently living in Holland, I'm planning to return to NZ tnext year to continue spinning. 
My sound? Hip Hop/Soul/Funk/Jazz/Electronic/House/Latin/Dub/Rocksteady/Reggae/Homegrown/Rare Groove/Fusion- a real mashup of styles. Music I consider to last the test of time. Dancefloor mixes of a more up-tempo nature for promoters can be provided by request.
