This compilation was created with the intent of having each song flow into each other so that it creates a flow of sorts as each track plays. I know this sounds really pretentious and sorta stupid, but, if it doesn't flow for you, at least enjoy the varied selection of tracks from a variety of sources.

Update 3/20/2015 - Used new sample library for the woodwinds

For those that are unaware, Richard is a character from the Japan-only game, "For the Frog the Bell Tolls," and makes a cameo in Link's Awakening. I only just found that out right before I started arranging. The overworld theme from that game contains a fully developed version of the theme, so I based my arrangement off of that instead, while still preserving the slower peaceful nature of the version found in Link's Awakening.

Update 3/20/2015 - Re EQ'ed

The shopkeeper has a shifty look to him, and the music reflects his craftiness. Similarly, when the player tries to fool around by buying items he doesn't need or try to steal them, the mood becomes even more silly, so I tried to reflect that in my arrangement. Yes, I know there's a faster version of the song when the witch makes the magic powder for you, but I'm choosing to ignore it.

This song plays during a cutscene, so I wasn't able to go crazy with it in terms of length. Although, I'm sure if there ever was a remake of the game with HD visuals, that the cutscene would look entirely different.

Update 3/20/2015 - Reworked the finale portion. Adjusted the trumpet levels, added some counter-phrasing in the horns.

I felt Kanalet Castle deserved a more romantic and grand theme than just four repeating arpeggios. You have this king Richard who was ousted from his castle and forced to hid in his villa. Did the moblins just show up and push him out? No, it was much worse! All his soldiers fell in battle, his family and friends were massacred, and the grand history of his kingdom was destroyed. I imagined Link roaming through the hallways while glancing at the paintings and statues, imagining what was once a proud legacy. I haven't given the brass section much love in recent tracks, so I tried to use them here in grand fashion. I pulled phrases from various tracks from the soundtrack of "For the Frog the Bell Tolls" and used them in constructing the noble melody. The theme swells in a crescendo until the very end, where it hangs unresolved. Link's eyes snap back into reality as he realizes the past glory is over.

Of course, this is just a dream island, so probably none of that happened.

Update 3/20/15 - Re EQ'ed

The bell sound was made using a combination of the Englehart bell and the glass marimba for the lower augmented 4th chord tone. I thought it interesting the melody is not the wind fish's theme but rather a phrase that sounds closer to For The Frog the Bell tolls. The composer probably wanted to maintain the connection with Prince Richard for the third dungeon.
