This demo was recorded on analog cassette tape at the home of Scott Kirby in New Orleans, LA late 1993 or early 1994. The track features Butch Trivette on vocals, cajun accordion and guitar; Bobby Lewis Ditullio on harmonica; Scott Kirby on piano; Jason Sypher on upright bass, Jeremy Lyons on electric guitar; and Bradley Wisham on drums. Heartfelt thanks to Scott Kirby for preserving and digitizing this; it was a wonderful surprise to hear these after thirty years.

This is an excerpt from a rehearsal dated Dec. 1, 2014, for our NYE show at Atwood's featuring Boubacar Diabate and friends. The rehearsal took place in the basement of Bouba's apartment building, and was recorded on Jeff Allison's trusty pal "Wally" --  his Tascam DR100 Mk II mini-recorder. Playing on this track are Boubacar on guitar and vocals, Dana on alto and baritone saxes, Jerome on a pared down drum kit and Jeff Allison on percussion. I believe Bouba's buddy/manager Mateja Miljacki stepped in on a big ol' drum from Mali, later on in the session. Enjoy! --JL

This is our version of a classic Morphine tune, sung by Dana Colley on an album we put out in 2010, only a year into this project. We were a little confused about our identity, and both the band and the album went by two different names: "Members of Morphine with/and Jeremy Lyons" and the succinct and to the point "The Ever Expanding Elastic Waste Band." 
Yeah.
Well, it all worked out in the end; we got to stay under the radar (not exactly on purpose) while we figured out what exactly we could do. 
This track is one of my personal favorites from the album. -- JL

A New Orleans street band playing in the early 1990s. Augie Rodola Jr. guitar, vocals, Johnny Duff guitar, Andy Kaufman bass, Jerry Barbarin Anderson on drums, Bobby Lewis harmonica, Butch Trivette squeezebox,  Norman Lee Shepperd washboard, Lissa Driscoll washboard. Augie Jr & the Big Mess live on the street 1992 (Jackson Sq or Royal St)

The Big Mess Blues Band was playing on the streets of New Orleans from the early 80s to the mid 2000s (sometimes under alternate band names). It centered around Augie Rodola Jr but in his absence was often led by other members, who were an ever-changing group totaling around 50 musicians over the years. Notables included “Washboard” Lissa Driscoll, Pablo Winfrey, Jeff Zima, Butch Trivette, Steve Lewins, Andy Kaufman, Manny Renov, Jerry Barbarin Anderson, Paul Kemnitz, Randy Torgerson, Mickey Bones, Tommy Oliver, Alan Rigg, Tommy Ray, Sarabeth “Wildflower” Peters, Corey Harris, Kenny Holladay, Scott Kirby, Bobby Lewis, John Duff and Jeremy Lyons. Augie died of cirrhosis of the liver in (or around) 2012. Lissa and Kenny have also since passed, as well as several other members. With few exceptions over the years the Big Mess played exclusively on the streets of New Orleans’ French Quarter. Whether this was entirely by their choice or by happenstance is perhaps up to the debate, but the band had a strict philosophy of doing whatever the hell they felt like at the moment. So. Perhaps not completely house trained. This is a tribute account to the Big Mess as well as associated acts, such as Butch Trivette, Jeremy Lyons, Lissa Driscoll and Kenny Holladay.
