Ursula Taylor was born in 1936 at Egypt Farm in the parish of Trinity, one of five children born to Herbert and Sophie de la Mare. She learned Jèrriais from her parents and grandparents who rarely spoke English.

Educated at Trinity school, Lynton and Springside in the parish of St Martin, she moved to Helvetia after the German Occupation. later marrying a St Ouennais she moved to St Ouen where Jèrriais was widely spoken.

After spending six years back in Trinity she has now resettled in St Ouen where she is involved in helping to keep the language alive and still presents La Lettre Jèrriaise on a regular basis on BBC Radio Jersey.
